REDRUM Kitchen Progress - Backsplash

Very busy weekend.

I got all of the tiles set for the counters, and we started on the backsplash this morning. I was having difficulty figuring out the layout for the island (I kept being left with a small slice of a tile). DH had the idea of setting one of the tiles in the backsplash diagonally. That worked out great.

I was having second thoughts about the backsplash. Was worried it my be to "busy". But now that it is going up, I do like it.

Now another questions. We are going to bring the backsplash up to the bottom of the upper cabinets (and little higher at the sink to a shelf). DH said he doesn't like that the top row of tiles will be cut more than in half. He thinks we should do another pattern something like this (with more triangles on the bottom):

I am worried that it's a little to high already for an accent row. I am also worried that it would be A LOT of work. Any comments? Would it look okay at that height?
