I like the cane. Do you have a picture?

Ack! Please excuse the spelling mistakes and grammical errors! Why I don't see those things until my second or third "proof read", idk!

Anyway, I grabbed a couple of quick pics. They aren't great shots because I didn't have room to get a straight on shot and the lighting is poor. You should be able to get the idea though!

From what I can tell the cane looks in great shape. I don't want to tear off the foam until I know what direction to take.. fabric or cane.

ohmygosh, I would do the cane in a heartbeat! If you want to really modernize it, spray them bright raspberry pink. But classic white would be gorgeous too!

Another vote for cane! Much more practical with kids, too. no fabric to get dirty.

Check the cane along the bottom, since that's the place that came out of the framework first on our cane bed. If it's in good shape, then I'd do the cane at least for a time. They may prefer the fabric though so they can lean back on the headboard.

I love the cane. A couple of pillows will make it comfortable for sitting and leaning against it. Also, Bestyears' idea of raspberry pink is wonderful!

Seriously, the cane. How pretty will that room be!!

I pulled the dust covers off the backs of the headboards.. the cane is in excellent shape! :D I just hope I don't do damage when removing the staples. I'm also hoping the staple holes won't be terribly noticeable.

Now to decide on a paint color. Their other furniture is white and yellow. I don't know what color I'm painting the walls yet. I am still looking for bedding. I'll be looking to you guys for help there when I'm ready to make a purchase.

Turquoise! paint them turquoise! Although I love the deep raspberry idea, I can't picture it with the yellow. Look at the house of turquoise blog for inspiration. Love those headboards. Lucky girls!

Buy a small tube of wood putty, and fill in the holes from the staples. When it's dry, sand lightly with a fine grit sandpaper, and your ready to prime and paint.

I ditto the suggestion for either a tourquise or Robin egg blue.

There are coordinating fabrics that I'm considering using for an embroidery loop wall collage and possibly curtains.

Love the cane! Our MBR headboard is cane, you just need a lot of pillows to sit up and read, it's really no problem. As long as the cane is in good shape, I would clean it up and use that. As for color, I would pick all the other elements of the room first-- fabric, linens, wall color, even accessories--- and then choose the color of the headboards. It might be fun to paint them a coordinating color, but I wouldn't do it if it makes the headboards too much of a design statement in the room. Jmo, but I think the shape and the caning are a lot of feature for a headboard without throwing in a bright color. Perhaps painting them white and using a color for the trim detail ( where they've now got gold) would be a good way to use color on those headboards.
