Help--can't match, I'm color blind.

OK, I lied, I didn't mean literally. DH is watching PGA and going nuts. He never gives any input until the last minute. So, let me explain

(1) my door (cabinets not here yet) is "cinnamon hawthorn maple", as shown, kind of a warm not too dark color

(2) I plan to use that porcelain tile that has a semi-travertine look for the floor

(3) my countertop is Ceasarstone "Dusty Stones" (http://www.caesarstoneus.com/catalog/product.cfm?ProductID=132), the reason I only have a little square from the brochure is that my counterperson actually lent out his sample, so I had to go to home depot with my door and tile in hand. No matter what, I really like the look of this countertop, it's a deep gray, but it does not look like granite.

(4)So, the question is, since DH at the last SECOND says "we've got to have some contrast", (backsplash and entire area behind range is same countertop material), I am thinking about painting the area above backsplash a light green, as shown, and the rest of kitchen even lighter green, I have a rather large kitchen, don't want it to be too green (there's no such thing these days, huh).

Ideas? Let me try posting the pics.

I had to smile because your choices remind me of my previous kitchen, which I really liked, but it was just too small. I changed the color on the walls a couple of times. They were Swiss Coffe white for many years. And then I went dramatic with a warm terracotta. I had considered green, but then we ended up doing a complete gutted remodel. I had actually thought that a green would contrast nicely with the cabinets. There are just so many ways to go with paint shades. It's a matter, sometimes of just picking the right tone. I would like to see a warmer tone of green. The one you have in your picture looks cool to me next to your samples. I am not suggesting that you go with white or terracotta at all! I think there's a green out there for your kitchen!

Just for kicks I'll post a couple of pictures of my previous kitchen.

Swiss Coffee(White) Kind of boring but at the time I really liked it! (Kitchen had just been refaced 11 yrs ago...that's why it was so clean!)

8 Yrs. later (hence the mess)...during my Terracotta Phase...to me this was a very dramatic change!

I gotta say - I see little to no relationship between green and your combo of existing colors.

I'd consider repeating one of the existing colors (like gray - to repeat the countertop, or brown to take the floor a bit deeper),or highlighting with complimentary colors (maybe deep blue to compliment the wood and still play on the gray of the countertop).

I have white molding and trim and decided to go with ORB (and I love it). I think it somewhat depends on what look you want. I was going for a real traditional look. I think polished nickel will give you a more formal look. Black might be great, but it will be a very strong look. I used Baldwin. It may be more expensive than Emtek (depending where you get it), but I talked to a couple of decorative hardware stores that carry both, and both steered me away from Emtek due to quality issues. Having said that, my builder uses Emtek all the time and was unaware of any clients that have complaints. I did ORB throughout the house for door knobs, handles but mixed in other finishes for cabinet knobs and bath fixtures.

Upstairs rooms can be different. I got mine from American Blinds and Wallpaper years ago. Google for a coupon - they have lots. Not sure if they are cheaper but I purchased the M & B blinds in Bamboo Harvest which were exactly the same ones my sister bought through her decorator in Charlotte for much much less. They look great and were easy to install. As far as using them in kids rooms, they might not be the best choice. Mine are fixed on the windows (just took the strings, wrapped them and tucked them under the valance when they were pulled to the right height), but they aren't the easiest to move up and down (they get crooked and it takes some fiddling to get them straight). They also aren't great for light control and in my personal opinion aren't particularly attractive when let down (that is why you always see them in magazines at a fixed height!) Just something to think about!

Lol bob. That would never work with me. I have a couple of rooms with white trim and wood doors and I think the light frame around the dark wood looks terrible myself. I'd much rather see you incorporate the blinds into the window (white)color so they aren't a huge blob of dark surrounded by a light frame. Bring your floor in with rich drapery...it's a much cleaner look.

I agree with applepieorder and RL Relocation as well. That whites do not always have to match totally. Secondly, I notice that you have window sills only (no other molding apparent on the windows. If you want to, you could paint just the sills as a diy project, but you know, I believe I agree with applepieorder that you don't HAVE to. I would enjoy your wood blinds like they are, and make that decision down the road.

man, blue, that's what my son keeps asking for.

This sounds completely stupid, but I vetoed it because it's not a food color (ok, I hear you, I eat those berries often too).

I think I am too chicken for a deep color. If my husband never jumped in asking for "contrast", I would have gone an orangish yellow.

man. And I was looking at these pretty green pendant lights too.

Hello,

I have medium maple cabinets with a travertine look porcelain tile, I have a darker counter it is a black w/ white flecks laminate. My walls are SW Bamboo Shoot. Here are some pics.

see, I think green works here, thank you for your pic, I do like the backsplash, in fact I really wanted the "baoding creme" tiles shown on the following link
BUT my countertop person keeps saying OH since you are Chinese (racial discrimination) and cook Chinese (actually, I probably cook more Italian) it would be nice to have the easy-to-clean backsplash. HMMM!! Would this be a last-minute change as well? HMMMM.
