Vintage looking iron hardware - bin pulls, knobs, handles

Any suggestions for where I can find vintage looking cast iron hardware? There are plenty of perfectly round "black" iron and ORB looking stuff but not like the ones I am looking for. I saw some at Whitechapel hardware but the bin pulls and round knobs I was looking at no longer seem to be there. Also this stuff is pricey and I was looking for more options.

I just found what you are looking for on topknobs.com. Someone here had given me the link. Try lookingbunder the somerset collection. Hope this helps.

Lee Valley's website has a decent selection, and I have been really happy with the knobs and pulls I've bought from them. I'll link to just one example. They also have some real cast iron "shell pulls."

I used a pull.... and I borrowed another GW-er's idea to use a larger size than on my other drawers. It's 7 or 8" long, so I hang by dish towel on it (right across from the sink). That way dirty/wet hands grab the towel and don't get the pull and cabinet dirty :) It works reeeeaaaaallly well, though I did have to find a knob/pull line that had lots of different sizes. I used Restoration Hardware. FWIW I have knobs on my cabinet doors, and pulls on my drawers. Since the trash is like a big drawer, this made sense to me. And- looks great!

Thanks all for the reassurance. I must say I am a bit surprised though.. I thought for sure that many posters will suggest breaking it up by adding some handles instead of binpulls. But the binpulls make it easier as I don't have to hunt for handles. Lololauren, holly-kay, smiling, EATREALFOOD --> thanks for the vote! shangaimom --> Good memory! Thanks again for the chandy info! Mine is hanging in the the dining area and I smile everytime I see it :) dilly_ny --> The floor is a saltillo look alike porcelain. I am actually a little worried about removing the paper and discovering that the red clashes horribly with the green. It was a gamble and I hope it pays off. Nope, pull is better...it distributes the force of your "pulling" along the drawer better. Besides, the cabinet behind gets just as "worn" as behind a pull...I know from experience w/my old kitchen (it started w/knobs and it got worn where your fingers fit around the knob stem). However, with a pull, you really don't touch the cabinet at all... Like Trudymom, we usually put a dishcloth on the trash pull for dirty hands...at least until we install the foot pedal. Heads up...if you have soft-close, you will have to disengage the soft-close to use a foot pedal. This is actually the hold-up on our pedal installation...my DH is balking at losing the soft-close! Hafele is the only place I've found the foot pedal as well. There are two models...one for trash cans hanging from rails (like CarryScott's mother's) and one for trash cans sitting an a "shelf" (like mine). Both foot pedals are designed for frameless, but our own MeToo2 posted how s/he modified them back in 2007. Having lived with old kitchens before this modern one, I'm so used to curling my fingers under bin pulls that I use the horizontal handles here the same way! The old plain bin pulls had the screw mounts to the sides & the fancy, heavier ones had a third screw in a design above. Children & those with arthritic hands find them easier. Short drawers had a central pull & long drawers needed two. Doors/cupboards had latches, but the doors weren't overlaid. I've seen bin pulls used sideways on modern doors with magnetic latches & think it often looks nice. Agree they keep the finish clean & with pale or painted cabinets, that's a huge plus. I'd take the brass fittings off once a year to clean & polish, but I have mariners in my heritage so a preference for shiny metals is genetic... What's up with with your cabinet KD? Who would put up with the hassle of renovating without wanting a very specific outcome?? Unless he gets those who give him a magazine picture or two & say "do this"? Used to know women who'd hire an interior designer to do the same thing with their rooms. Designers would give them 3 choices in fabric or flooring & that would determine the designer's next round of choices. And that's before CAD when designers sketched & colored their renderings! When it came to kitchens and baths, the actual work was done before move-in or during extended Summer vacation. Most of us here live in a different world than that! Your sanity is just fine in my view and your kitchen will turn out much more functional & beautiful for your thoughtfulness. I'm with you on the approach of the more you know & plan, the fewer surprises down the line and the happier the outcome.

Thanks KMCG.. I have looked at Lee Valley and they are too smooth and uniformly black.. I haven't seen the real cast iron you mentioned but I will poke around some more.

I guess this is one of those posts where a picture is worth a thousand words..

These are more along the lines of what I am searching for.

We got our antique pewter pulls and knobs from topknobs and love them. They come in a 'black iron' color. The bin pulls are very comfortable to use.

I found most of mine on e-bay. You will find some are true antiques, some are replicas.

sis2two, Labbie --> I looked at the somerset collection at top knobs. It looked OK but I really think something with top mounted screws in the bin pulls would look better in my kitchen. None of the knobs appealed to me.. They were too "perfect" I think and did not invoke the rustic, been used many many times feel I am going for.

EngineerChic --> Nice knob. It has the look somewhat but I want a smooth finish with no edges..

farmhousebound --> I have been browsing on ebay. A lot of lovely stuff.. especially the real vintage stuff but I am worried about being able to find screws and mounting hardware. DH wants things to at least match somewhat and I have not been able to find a large enough lot.. Let me know if something catches your eye...

Marcolo --> Found a couple that have the texture and the look.. Very pricey!! I am not good with color on the screen but I am not sure which finish is more like cast iron.. Is it Dark bronze?

I got everything at the link below. Great service, No mine don't all match but I got enough so that each "group" of drawers does match. He has everything you could need and some larger lots too. Good Luck . c

The Dakota line at Restoration Hardware is sort of close and offered in soft iron.

Trailrunner/ CEFreeman, thanks for the Robinson antiques link. I do like A& B.. But looks like they do not have these in bigger lots. I have bookmarked this site and will be keeping an eye out for larger lots.

Athomeinva - I must confess, I had not considered RH at all.. The Dakota line seems like it has some of the handmade qualities I am looking for but the images on their website sucks..who wants to see he bin pull only on it's side..I will check out their store sometime this week.
