Round Glass Table - any pics you can share?

A friend of mine suggested that I get a round glass coffee table for my living room. I don't want one with wood trim because I'm having bookcases installed in that room so there will be lots of wood already, I'm trying to mix up the materials a little bit :-) I was hoping for something very simple looking with perhaps iron legs/base. I've seen lots of gaudy styles out there that really don't match my style. Anyone have a table like this that they can share pics of or can suggest somewhere to find this? Thanks!

I'm afraid I don't have one to show you but think this is a good idea from what you've said. I would go online and google "glass coffee table" or try different furniture web sites or even e-bay. Good luck!

Ingrid - I wouldn't have thought of a glass coffee table for myself but when she said it, it made sense. Like she said, with all the wood and hard corners, a glass table would soften the look. I'd just have to deal with 2 1/2 year old fingerprints all over it!! I did do a search and seem to only come up with tables that have some wood on them or are very fancy. I'll give it another try though. Ebay is a good idea...thanks!

We will probably do something like that, and use it as our table with 6 counter height stools. Were your cabinets underneath all curved and operable?? I'm thinking 36" round for base cabinetry with 12" overhang. Base would be simpler to build if I didn't require any storage area, still unsure if I need it to open. I didn't know circular cabinets were available, your picture looks circular. Thank you so much for posting pictures, very surprised you were still visiting the forum!!Its the first one I've seen.

"Do people with any taste still use these?" LOL! I ask myself that Q all the time! Here are my general opinions: I personally don't like much of anything skirted...but then my decorating tastes are more minimal. With that said, If was WAS going to skirt a bedside table, I would make sure I didn't overdo fabrics throughout the room so it appears everything is bathed in fabric. I prefer more balance of fabrics, woods, and other textures. I would make sure the fabrics on the bed & potentially on windows aren't matchy-matchy with the skirting. I would attempt to either play up the side table, or down-play it depending on what else is going on in the room...to create balance. Either create a focal point or be careful to not over-ride an existing focal point. So, with THAT said, I would personally not put glass on top. To me that's fussy (but then, that's me), so instead of glass tops, I would put a tray or some other nice-looking piece along-side the lamp (or whatever is on there) for the purpose of placing glasses & personal items in a contained and protected spot. Also, to me...when I see glass tops when nearby lamps/lighting are on...I just see the reflection of the glass more than I notice anything decorative. Again, light reflection draws the eye to the glass. Not sure if that happens to anyone else...but that's what I see. You might want to assess the lighting and determine if that's an effect you might be going for.

Mine aren't the bumpers you use to cushion a cabinet door, for example, but rather thin plastic discs, about the diameter of a nickel. I got them from the glass company that cut the glass for my table. The discs are very thin so the glass is close to the table top, not raised as with a bumper. At least that is what I use. Does anyone remember Anne of Green Gables, how excited Anne was, during a sleepover at Diana's house, to get to sleep in the spare bedroom? What decadence, what an honor and treat to get to stay in a spare bedroom! It's funny, because my mother arrives this afternoon for a visit with my children. (Of course she'll be happy to see my husband and me as well -- but she's really here for her grandsons!) I was readying one of the guest rooms (we have three) -- one of which is being used for pure storage as, eighteen months later, I am still going through / sorting / unpacking boxes from our move. Ugh. Another guest room is on the main level, and that was a determining factor in our househunting: it must have a nice-sized guest room and full bath on the main level to accommodate anyone who cannot easily maneuver stairs (guests or any of us with a broken foot / leg, etc.). We're also using that room as our den (it has the comfiest sleeper sofa we could find), where the main computer / printer / copier, etc. will live, although wouldn't you know those are all still up in our bedroom (where they were put when we were having the den / bedroom remodeled)! It looks like a college dorm in my room. Which leads me to the third guest room, the one nearest my sons' rooms. My children love having their grandmother (my mother) stay there so that in the morning they can go in and cuddle with her. (They'd also like to visit with my father but he visits less frequently; his excuse is he needs to stay home and take care of their pets, but the truth is, he walks with a cane and is too proud to ask for a wheelchair at the airport [stupid], so travel is v. tiring for him. When we purchased this house I had a broken foot, so it was for that and my father we wanted a house with a main floor bed and bath.) But as I was making the bed with our former bed clothes (we used to have a queen but moved up to a king: the guest bed is also a queen) I was thinking how much I'd like to have pretty bedding just for the guest room. Did you catch the part about my room looking like a college dorm though? We still do not have a bedskirt (and one of our cats uses a corner of the box spring as her personal scratching post, no matter how often we put double-sided tape there or spray her with water -- she's determined!), headboard or pretty window coverings. (although the plantation shutters we installed are attractive and useful, I wanted some panels on either side to "soften" the shutters) So, I am not prepared to spend any money on the guest room, any of them, until I get my bedroom done! (Calico Corners has a sale starting this week so I'll be going to hopefully order a bedskirt and headboard! "sale" -- one of my favorite four letter words!) So I have my Anne of Green Gables dream of having a spare bedroom others would swoon to stay in, but for now I can offer two rooms with a pretty view of the Rocky Mountains, a comfy bed and two little boys who love to cuddle! And that'll have to be good enough. It is for us in our bedroom. I loved reading and seeing what thought and care you all have put into your guest rooms. Your guests are sure to feel v. welcome!

You don't say exactly what your style is? The best way to shop for a specific item is to Google *round glass coffee table* and then click on [images] at the top of the page. This just gives you photos to view. When you see something that strikes your fancy, click it on and it take you to the sellers website to view details and similar items. Switch the search terms around a bit to get more photos. Try *coffee tables iron legs* and you will get some photos of round ones along with the retangular ones. This makes shopping a breeze.

I have a round glass coffee table, with a wood base (the glass part lays on top), that I inherited from my Mom. It is a lovely table, and is a nice change from all the wood pieces. My only problem is, the glass part is so heavy that I cannot move it by myself. Since I live alone, I have to call for help when I want to move stuff around. I finally got a round piece of wood the same size and stained it. It doesn't look as nice, but at least I can move it when I want. Good luck, I'm sure you have help at home, though.

I have a round glass table, but just the top is glass. The bottom is half a wine barrel, filled with corks. I "made" it myself. Just bought the wine barrel at a home center/nursery, filled a garbage bag with styrofoam peanuts to take up most of the space, put a piece of cardboard (cut from the box the glass top came in) on top of the garbage bag to flatten it out some, then topped it off with a couple inches of corks I had collected over the years. Add the glass top, bought at BB&B, and you have a table!

I know you don't want wood, and a wine barrel may be too hokey (mine is on the porch, which is decorated in a wine and grapes theme). But you could make your own table in the same way. Find a nice big flower pot or something similar and put a glass top on that.

Another idea is to look at patio furniture, rather than living room furniture. Many outdoor tables have iron legs and glass tops. There are also some nice outdoor tables with beautiful mosaic tops.

this is why I LOVE this site...I wouldn't have thought to look up cocktail tables or outdoor furniture. I guess I'm just not that experienced in furniture shopping to think out of the box at all.

Dilly Dally - I'm going to give that a try by looking up the images vs. the sites, thanks for the tip :-) As far as style, I have the hardest time stating what it is. I'll try to find some images online and maybe I can share them with the group and someone can help me figure out my style??!! How sad is that???

Les - I never knew there were that many table choices out there! I really like that first one, and it's a patio table, again never would have thought to look those up.

Susie - that's too bad you had to change your table but good for you for figuring out a way to make it work! I never really thought about how heavy a glass table could be. Great, my husband will be thrilled!

Uxorial - what a creative idea for a table. I bet it makes your porch look great...do you have pics of it? I really need to expand my imagination when thinking about items in my house...I rely on the stores to have what I want, but that hasn't always worked me for.
