Comments (12)Thank you for that very detailed description, Wa8b! I'm impressed with how knowledgeable you are about this - though I guess you had to be if you had the same problem yourself. Your solution sounds very clever - good work! My carpenter did manage to attach the plastic toe kick today, and I believe he attached it correctly since the metal brackets are no longer on the counter. ;-) I don't think it quite lines up with the toe kick of the cabinet next to it, but that doesn't bother me at all! It's such a narrow kitchen that you can't even see the toe kicks. I just wanted the gap underneath to be closed, and now it is. It's a nice dishwasher, btw. :-)...See MoreIntegrated dishwasher toe-kick?

Comments (9)@kaseki -- yes, that is exactly why I need the advice. My cabinet people are very hesitant do something from wood. If I push them, though, they'll probably do it. I'm inclined to have it painted, but will paint adhere well to the plastic?...See MoreAdvice: Vents under cabinets not ducted; large gap above toe kick

I would hesitate to completely remove the cabinet itself just to punish the contractor with reworking a bad job. It will disturb the countertop, backsplash and other things that are already installed to your satisfaction. I have a hydronic toe-kick heater, and we cut out a large square area in the bottom of the sink cabinet, using a jig saw. We then screwed small metal support plates under each corner of the opening so that the cut out section rests on the plates when you put it back in. It is not readily visible when you drop the cutout section back in, and in my case it gives me access to both the pex hydronic lines and the motor for the booster fan that is part of the heater.
