I think I've found the 'Magic Cure' for ants!
Comments (5)The ants I have are pharoh ants. They do not make nests in the ground as far as I know. They tend to nest in cracks and crevices of the greenhouse or actually live in potted plants. In following their trails, I really haven't come across what you described except for occasional aphids. In an effort to try and stop them all together, I have taken everything out of the gh and am repotting them in ant free soil. I spray the roots with water til there is none left and inspect for ants .. If i see any I dunk the whole plant into a insecticide/fugicide solution for about 2 minutes, then rinse off and pot. Along with the lavender oil treatment, I hope this keeps the populations down considerably this winter. I have a large colony of anoles living in my gh and they seem to take care of all the other nastys. I have also found that if you sprinkle some diazinon or dursban underneath pots that are outside, it keeps ants from getting into pots. Wish I had thought of this a lot earlier. Comments (18)Last year, we had a MAJOR aphid infestation on our 30ft Box Elder. The infestation seemed to pop up overnight, it was crazy. The entire tree was just crawling with aphids, sticky honeydew dripping everywhere, so gross. I tried spraying religiously several times a day, but with a tree that big it was extremely difficult. It got to the point that the tree lost a huge majority of it's leaves. But, I was bound and determined not to spray anything chemical. Then, after about a month or more of this, the beautiful, amazing ladybugs finally came, and did they KICK APHID BUTT!! It was really interesting to watch nature do her thing. The ladybug larvae truly did look like they were just vacumning the ahids up. Pretty soon, the tree was coated with ladybugs, and the aphids were gone. After their feast is over, I assume the ladybugs move onto to other areas. So anyways, that's my aphid story, hopefully it won't happen that severely again, but I very diligently place every single ladybug and larvae I come across on that tree, just in case the aphids are planning another onslaught. I've also heard that nasturtiums help attract ahids away from other plants. Good luck, I hope your ladybugs seek and destroy happily!!...See Moredo I need spyware and anti virus protection?
Comments (30)who the heck are all these new people and some of the things suggested here are not the ones you want please be careful we have had some trolls here lately trying to sell their junk. You can not run 2 antivirus programs at the same time if they are both running full time it will cause a conflict that is very well known and documented and will be told to you at any of the support forums you go to so you need to fully remove Norton since you now have AVG. go here and use app remove and the norton removal tool from the security garden link Antivirus Product Removal Tools Using AppRemover it is free spybot search and destroy was at one time very good but today there are some that are much preferred so I suggest replacing spybot and adaware with these free products, update them each time you use them and scan weekly with full scan. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (Win) - Detecting and Removing Malware SUPERAntiSpyware.com : Remove Malware : Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware! get the free version and add WOT to your browser to help protect you from bad websites also add sypwareblaster update it weekly hit enable all protection to turn shield green, no scans to do. SpywareBlaster WOT use a good firewall as recommended like zonealarm free...See MoreDo I need a carpenter or a handyman to install three upper cabinets?
Comments (8)The tricky part on uppers, well, there's more than one tricky part. The first is that they are positioned up over your head! You have to figure out how you're going to get them to hold still long enough to screw them to the wall. A ledger board is common, but there are other solutions. As a rule your wall isn't straight and flat. If someone just puts them up against the wall and screws* them in they can "rack" them. Essentially this means they can twist the joints because they made the squared up cabinet conform to a not-square wall. You'd think people whose job it is to put up cabinets would know how to avoid this, but we see it here regularly. This is where Sophie's shims come in. [Our 1st kitchen had a major wall bow because the crown on one stud was bowed towards the kitchen while the rest were bowed to the next room.] Those 3 cabinets have to be absolutely flat across the fronts of the whole run. At the same time they have to be level from left to right and top to bottom, so in 3 dimensions as well as with each other. Enter Sophie's levels. There are all sorts of good videos online about how-to. DH and I decided that no one cared as much as we did how well this was done, so we did it ourselves, twice now. We are not fast, but we're perfectionists. if you do look for someone else to do it for you, I'd pay the extra to hire the guy with the training. That could be a college or union trained carpenter, but it could be someone else. You'd have to evaluate the person's expertise and commitment to doing an excellent job. The guy who'll do it for $50 in under an hour? Keep on walking. *If your installer shows up with nails or dry wall screws for installation, show him the door!...See Moreflgargoyle
