Solid Surfaces - Corian etc.

We're 90% sure we are going with a white solid surface.

I've heard of issues with cracking. Even if you haven't had issues, can you explain what exactly the issues are and how prevelant? Is having a squared of edge going to create chipping problems (I need a modern look)?

The next questions are about the sheen. I've heard that the gloss sheen is VERY difficult to maintain. If you have this type of finish, how difficult is it to get back to the original sheen? Do you think it is worth it? If left alone, would it just dull down to a satin or matte, or does it just plain look bad? If you have satin, has it too dulled? Is it easy to get back? If you have matte, is it just about no maintainance besides day to day cleaning?

Lastly we are trying to get a rock bottom price. We are looking at the Glacier White in a squared off edge which is in the A grouping. The base price is $36/sq foot. What is the cheapest deal you've seen or purchased.

Any other feedback that you think I've overlooked would be appreciated.
