quartz countertops

Has anyone used cambridge quartz for kitchen countertop. I am thinking of using the color sutton and only having small samples of it makes it hard to know if it will really look good in a large kitchen. If you have the color sutton let me know how you like it?

Yes I have Cambria Sutton and I love it. I have it on my counters and island with cooktop and a second tier for seating. Everyone who sees it likes it very much. I was also concerned with the look from the sample but it turned out great. My kitchen is not formal. Cabinets are shaker with dark hardware and small subway tiles in beige/khaki shades. Sort of old looking. Only person who did not like the Sutton was the backsplash installer. He also sells and installs granite, marble and other stone. His worker asked what the counter was and he replied "plastic" and couldn't understand why I wouldn't go with granite or other stone for the price.

Glad to hear that you love the Cambria Sutton. I have a new country home with medium color shaker cabinets. Just want the quartz to look great - Should have cabinets and counter in soon - thanks for your opinion

You do not need to stack two 2cm slabs on top of each other to make it look like you are using 4cm thick slabs. You only need a small amount of extra material (1-2Ã¢ÂÂ inches depending on edge type) to beef up just the outside edges of the counters. Laminated or mitered edges are very common here in So. Cal., where most stone and quartz is sold in 2cm size, rather than 3cm. The fabricator will put a 5/8Ã¢ÂÂ thick plywood subtop that is a little narrower than the finished counter size on top of the cabinet. Then the 2cm slab counter is put on top of the plywood. A narrow strip of the quartz is attached just at the edge of the counter to hide the edge of the plywood and make the whole counter look thicker. For standard 24Ã¢ÂÂ deep cabinets, the finished counter width with overhang is typically 25.5.Ã¢ÂÂ I donÃ¢ÂÂt know what brand of quartz you plan to buy, but Caesarstone slabs are 56.5Ã¢ÂÂ wide, Hanstone is 55Ã¢ÂÂ wide, Silestone is 54Ã¢ÂÂ, Cambria is 55.Ã¢ÂÂ (Some brands sell wider Ã¢ÂÂjumboÃ¢ÂÂ slabs if you have deeper counters.) Assuming a 55Ã¢ÂÂ wide slab, two 25.5Ã¢ÂÂ deep counters will use up 51Ã¢ÂÂ (plus a small amount of loss in the cutting process), leaving the few inches you need for the edge strips. You should need the same number of slabs whether you use 2cm or 3cm material. The thinner material will cost less, which should offset the increased labor cost for the laminated or mitered edge. It shouldn't be necessary. Microwaves have been used on countertops since they were invented. I have mine on a lacquered wood shelf (part of the cabinet, basically) and there is no damage. I could see using something under it to contain messes if you are in a messy household.

If you are considering litigation, then be sure to document all your issues in writing. Phone calls are not proof of anything. So instead of calling Daltile, the Kitchen Design Center, and the Fabricator, you should be emailing or texting. If you do call, follow up with an email that describes the conversation so that you have a record. Write down dates and organize. Your state may have what is called a "Notice and Right to Cure" statute that requires that you provide your contractor with notice and an opportunity to cure the alleged defect prior to initiating litigation. Generally, you must send them this notice 60 days before filing a lawsuit or your lawsuit may be dismissed from court. The "Notice and Right to Cure" doesn't mean that you have to use them to do the repair. Someone else can do the repair, and they would pay for it. This is something that you should research prior to filing in small claims court. In the meantime, stop the bad reviews on the internet. Depending on what you say in them, they can be used against you should this go to court. While I imagine the reviews can be helpful in getting their attention, as you have found, it also angers those involved in the situation.

I see what you mean by the flooring being too busy for the cabinets.. We are doing porcelain tile in the bathrooms.. The upstairs part of the house has orginal hard-wood floors (oak, stained orange) that we plan on refinishing… tile is out of budget for us for the rest of the house. Is a flooring like this too busy or too light? Im not a huge fan of too dark of flooring. This is sort of how i imagined the colors in my kitchen minus a few things.

Just an FYI, my friend has the Cambria Lancaster with dark cherry shaker cabinets. Hers are more elegant for lack of a better description and the Lancaster goes well with them. She has black appliances and I have stainless. I think you will be happy

I have ordered the electrolux line of appliances in stainless steel. If your cambria sutton goes well with stainless that's what I'm going do. Wish I could have brought a big slab home to look at!!! It doesn't look blotchy does it?

No it's not blotchy. It has a few places where the quartz or the resin I guess is more pronounced but nothing huge. I have read that some people had problems with "pooling" of resin but mine isn't and neither is my friends. How big a sample did they show you? I saw a foot square sample and was able to bring it home for a day or two. the little pieces that are a few inches square are difficult to imagine. Have you asked if they have larger samples or if they have a customer who has it and might let you see theirs?

Here's a line of quartz that I found. It's pretty new but I really liked it. I'm doing mostly E'lux with birch cabs and using the Sterling color which goes great with my flooring.

FWIW, I've only heard good about Cambria and had planned on using that until recently.
