I'm so excited to post my first photo of my almost finished kitchen. There's still a lot left to do but we're 4 month in to a whole house remodel so I'm pretty exciting that it's coming to an end.

Azmom, My Woodharbor kitchen cabinets are inset cherry cabinets that have been in for 2.5 years and are doing great. Woodharbor makes a frameless I believe but I went with the other company SJM, that is also an Iowa company and that is carried by the local shop that sold me my Woodharbor cabinets. The ironing board pull out in the style I have requires at least a 14" width I believe, and something like 21" depth. It will be clearly marked on the spec sheet. Mine only unfolds and does not swivel. There is another model that is offered that swivels but it requires a lot more width, but not as much depth to the cabinet. In my space I couldn't use the swivel because of my width constraints. My ironing board is a Rev-a-Shelf. Hafele sells the same types, with similar specs. I think the prices are similar too. My only complaint with my cabinets is that the person doing the drawings and handing off to the cabinet maker made three critical errors. One, the grain pattern went the wrong way. I could have had this remade but chose to not do this. Second, the width for the right side of my laundry space was to be designed to accommodate my wall tile to butt up against the filler. But in reality it came without that ability. I clearly wanted enough filler to run my tile into the cabinets and have room for the doors. My EXCELLENT carpenter shifted everything over with his skills, put in a filler to give me room for my wall tiles. The third, which was frustrating, is that the floor of the middle cabinet was to be the same height as the stacking platform between my W/D. This was so there would be room for my dryer vent to run straight out the side and above the counter height of the cabinet. I had sent the designer the measurement to clarify and she stated she "got it". Well the measurement didn't get to the cabinet I see. The carpenter did not think it would be a problem to modify to allow the dryer exhaust to be fitted. He just had to cut into the floor of that cabinet :/ I was disappointed. My free standing vanity turned out as requested, (except for the grain). Moral of the story, see the drawings and sign off on every detail as they change. Have the cabinet designer slowly tell you every detail while pointing it out on the drawing. Keep everything at a business level, don't become chummy (i.e don't discuss philosophy, children, or politics). These issues listed above were my down falls anyway.

Well, now that I'm a day late and a dollar short....read it all. Love furniture, fireplace not so much (get rid of that black scroll - it's too much for the brick) also all that brick is throwing me off. You had one idea with the wood surround on the brick, it was medium color wood and it softened the brick also with the mantel. Love 2nd picture for over mantel, very pretty. Love the lamps with some gold in them but not the shade, just doesn't go. The busy metals I would say is a no in the lamps, personally I am not fond of that look in there. Rug looks like a nice size, I think smaller isn't a good choice. I even like the colors, they are calm. It is a very comfortable room, may I come and sit a spell? Tables,I don't have a clue on them. You're coming along and I think it's good when you can look through other's eyes.....others pick up on things that you yourself never even thought of. I think we are very fortunate that we have so many wonderful designers here that give so willingly of their time to help out with ideas. I believe they get a round of applause.

I'd go with a darker color than the cabs, picking up a dark tone from the tile. (Which I love, by the way! Great choice.) The natural color looks too blonde to me. I enjoy mixing woods, but only if there's contrast, and right now the colors are very close. It depends on what look you're going for. The lighter color reads more American country or mountain lodge to me, and darker reads more Mediterranean. FYI, in our remodel we've installed a fir beam, and we'll stain it and the trim dark to draw the color in from the Craftsman front rooms. Congrats -- either way it's an inviting, well-planned space!

Thank you so much everyone. My DH, who, with me by his side, has done all of the remodeling was so patient with my selection of the backsplash. Funny thing is that I circled back to the exact same tile I originally wanted. After looking at so many, not quite right whites, I think I finally got over the cost issue. I also found that by working with a distributer of Sonoma directly in california the price was significantly better than locally in the midwest - even after shipping costs. Lake_girl - our cabinets are also not a pure white, a soft white (Crystal calls it frosty white). The sonoma creamy is a little "creamier" than our white and without the grout they looke even more cream. So I do believe that the grout can change the "look" of your white subways. Bee - I will be more than happy to measure. I want to say it is 49" or 50" inside the posts but I'll measure and let you know for sure. Red - (Makes me think of one of my current favorite shows, Once Upon A Time - Red Riding hood :) ) --- The longer pulls are also a top knob pull. It is the TopKnob M965. My Knobs are the Top Knob M354, and the bin pulls are Top Knob M364. All in Antique Pewter finish. I found the best prices at topknobs.com. Loved hunting the web for the best prices for this project. My floor tile is from Italy and the local distributer thought their distributer "carried" it, but it turns out they special ordered so our tile people wouldn't order it. I emailed someone in Italy off the manufacturers website and they sent me a list of all US carriers. It turns out that I got the same tile for over 1000.00 less, out of Florida, including shipping. So excited! That was out of www.fastfloors.com. Love it when you get great deals on a great product for your remodeling efforts!

I'm so excited to see this -- we installed our natural cherry cabs and are waiting for our soapstone counters to be installed on Friday. Congrats on being so close! It looks fantastic so far (but obviously I'm a bit biased;)

looks great! please keep the picts coming. I have to order my cabs next week and have switched from painted white to cherry but am nervous about pulling the trigger on the darker wood.

Leslied dc - I really wanted white cabinets but lost that battle to my husband who wanted cherry. Now that they're in, I love them. It's exciting to see everything come together yet nerve wracking at the same time.

One thing I realized is that I will never be able to change out the sink unless the counter is removed. I chose the blanco diamond super single sink that can either be undermounted or a drop it and I went with an undermount. The lip of the sink is sandwiched between the counter and cabinet sink base.

Cherry and soapstone....siiiiigggggghhhh, it's my absolute favorite combo. That's just gorgeous, congratulations!!

I have a Blanco Diamond supersingle and so far (all of two weeks) we LOVE it. It's deep enough to hide dishes awaiting their turn in the DW, it's big enough to easily do a cookie sheet, and I think it's just plain pretty. I hope you like yours as much as I do!

Oooh, I like the grey soapstone. And the cherry is gorgeous -- looks like you will have great natural light to show off its depth of finish.

And such big drawers under your cooktop! Enjoy.

kittenkat - thanks for the encouragement on the cherry cabs. Glad you are loving your. Have just been so fearful of a dark, heavy, manly looking kitchen. I do have the same sort of casement windows over my sink as yours. am meeting with my kitchen designer tomorrow so I may have more questions after that. Am planning on a light colored caesar or silestone. any more pics yet? : )

Leslied dc - I probably won't have much in the way of new photos until the weekend. The marble on the island won't get installed until next week. I wish I have more to show. I think I could only find one cherry/soapstone kitchen when i first started out.

Kittenkat and Leslied dc - I wanted to reassure you about the Silgranit sink. We just had ours installed about 2 weeks ago. We have the Blancoprecis Super Single, which is the next smaller size than the Blancodiamond. We have the Anthracite color, cherry cabinets and a white-ish granite. Soooo, I wonder, is it possible to be in love with a sink? Cause that's how I feel about it! We had stainless sink before, and I will never go back to stainless now. The Silgranit anthracite color is gorgeous. Even though it's dark, it doesn't make the kitchen dark whatsoever, it just looks dramatic and is a perfect color to go with the cherry. And, it shows NO dirt or grime. It just never seems to be dirty. I've cleaned it, cause I felt I should, but it certainly didn't look like it needed it. And, it doesn't scratch. And it isn't loud when dishes and glasses land on it. Sigh, I am in love with a sink.

Kittenkat, what faucet will you have? Our faucet is a Kraus in polished chrome, and we were nervous because it was so reasonably priced, we thought it's too good to be true. But it's heavy and solid, and works like a dream. Really smooth, perfect pressure in spray and regular flow.

What is the name of the beautiful soapstone you have? Will you be oiling it? I love the color.

Looks great so far! Congratulations! I also have to jump in on the sink love-fest. I'm cracking up because I just said to husband five minutes ago "Can a woman fall in love with a sink?" I also have the Blanco Diamond single in anthracite. Its one of my favorite parts of my new kitchen!

OMG I'm in love with your soapstone!!! What kind is it? I think it's beautiful with your cabs. Can't wait to see more update pics and, of course, the final reveal!

Thank you annesv for the boost. I'm sure I'll love the sink, I'm just worried about it lasting since replacing it will involve removing the counters. I do think that I'll oil or wax the soapstone, which is Beleza from Dorado in Mass.
