My husband insisted I keep the granite behind the cook top which created quite the design challenge! Some of you said to go with a ceramic tile that wouldn't fight with the granite but I went with my heart and picked tumbled travertine with lots of variation. It may not be perfect beside the granite but I love it everywhere else and I'm still happily married! Thanks for visiting.

AND, when you wipe grease off easily, you'll be so happy! I'm hoping my frikken #@***Kitchen company delivers my BS before the bankruptcy court grabs everything- so it could be worse, you could have NO BS!!!

First time I've seen the travertine in a subway style, bet it looks really nice in person! (So hard to capture all the gorgeous nuances in a picture)

Now, big_deck, honestly, how can we help you support your addiction when most of us are hiding everything we can in our trunks, every spare closet, under the bed, behind the hot water tank and in our attic, in our underwear drawer, basements and crawl spaces, not to mention the rafters in the garage!??? Maybe we need to start providing exchange programs for each other to help get the junk we want!! We can vouch for each other! Like last week when I hauled yet another window home and got caught! DH wanted to know just how many extra old windows one person possibly needs and I meekly said...all of them...Yep, I could have used some help on that one! You might have struck on something here, because we are all GJ enablers!!!LOL! OK. Let's guess what he might be thinking/feeling. He made a lady pregnant and married young. During the infactuation phase, everything seemed ok, except he had a little nagging doubt sitting on his shoulder. Now, he 20 yr old and thinks, what have I done? Have I chose the right one? Will I be happy 10 yrs from now? The soul fire has gone out lately and I think that I could be more attacted and turned on by someone else. But, how can I call it quits and start over with a child. I feel trapped; I'm unhappy about it. Notice there is alot of "me" and "I" centered stuff in the above paragraph. He'll never be happy until he passes into a different phase where he thinks, "She's pretty good; Good looking, too. She a wonderful mother. I wonder if I could turn her into a tiger in bed? How could I give her a mini-vacation? The other possibility is that he is scared witless about the prospect of having another child. He sees the financial burden as too great for his career to support. The though of heavy responsibility can turn down the flame. Older men who are experienced and well extablished in the job world are more confortable with this, but for guys these days with the changed economy, that does not happen until they are in their 30s. Some men do well with the challenge of responsibility, while others wilt. If he's concerned about fathering another child, he and his wife should consult with a doctor about medical procedures that can insure no more children. In this case, it should be him that undergoes a procedure if that's what he wants. The woman should remain fertile just in case the marriage breaks apart anyway in the near future. He needs to consult with a therapist who can point out the positives in his wife and give him ideas of how to capitalize on this. The sex part will heal itself after he gains a better feeling and sureness about the relationship. Some therapists will "test" the relationship to reveal strengths and weaknesses. That would be a disaster in this case. Choose a therapist who looks for the positives and then works with those. This man needs assurance that 10 years down the road, he'll be happy with his mate, and will feel that it was a wise choice. Sure, there are others in existance that can be a sexual turn-on, but then, if the wife is too, isn't that the better situation? Those other side infatuations can have big, unknown negatives as well. Somehow, he needs to get past the age of 40.

Oh my gosh, you just can't cover those glorous windows! They are absolutey drop dead gorgeous. I wouldn't do anything to cover them and would only add a valance if you need to add interest. Birdgardener had a great idea to plant tall hedges to block the view in but keep your windows uncovered. My DH is always grumbling about me getting curtains and we live in the country on 3 1/2 acres with nothing but wildlife close by so in my opinion drapes and curtains are not utilitarian just decorative. I can never find window coverings that I like!

Nope, you simply cannot keep this to anything under 3-4 metres - it is, after all, a TREE...and it will also drop annoying leaves for months - I speak from experience here having one of my customers dealing with exactly the same issue - a corkscrew willow, right next to his fence but unfortunately next door.

Thank you! The tile is called Via Rustica but I had to make things difficult and mixed in half Golden Sienna (which is the yellow/golden stones). If I had to do it over I would have just stuck with the Via Rustica. I tossed a bunch of dark stones and replaced them with the Golden Sienna but after the grout is added everything looks great, even the dark stones. Do you see too much gold?

I think it looks very nice also and you can't beat the ease of clean up(I'm such a messy cook)DH really likes the idea of a granite backsplace for that reason. I love how you married the two.

Looks very nice -- the colors in the granite & backsplash go very well together! They both have the same amount of interest (if that makes any sense) so that neither ends up receding into the background. More important than GWrs' thoughts, of course, is your DH's opinion.

young - did you say in another post that you painted these cabinets? They are gorgeous! If I read that right, could you post the colors and steps you used? If I'm confused...well, it's not the first or last time lol!

quietlife3, yes, I painted the cabinets (well I hired someone). I chose Greenfield Pumpkin by Benjamin Moore and had them glazed with a raw umber color. I think they look like wood and they look so much better than the orange oak I used to have. I'm so glad you like it.
