Orange Trellis Curtain in Blue and white DR/KIT

I wanted to cross post, but don't know how. My original question is in the kitchen forum. We remodeled our kitchen/dining room earlier and are moving to refurbish the trim and wood windows. Walls are Blue Willow (medium blue) with stark white trim, white cabs and marble counters over oak hardwood flooring.

So of course now we need window treatments, right? It does to DW. We have two panels from Pottery Barn of a sheer in white with a blue/grey trellis pattern on it. Me and everyone loves it, but DW hates it. So we go hunting curtains and fabrics this weekend and we run across a bright orange with white Imperial Trellis pattern on it from or based on Schumacker's design. Bold. Powerfull. We'd do 3 windows in the DR with simple curtains 96" high. Bring in orange color in some items scattered through the kitchen to balance it visually, add some pillows in similar shade and patterns in the LR across the entrance foyer.

Too much? Maybe tone it down by using Roman Shades instead? Soften it by finding the pattern but in orange on a white background, not the other way?

Hi Whit. I had to rethink there for a minute as we usually see DH for Dear Husband, but when you were talking about a kitchen and then wrote DW I thought of Dish Washer. Which if we were back in the "old days" that could work too. LOL
Okay on to your dilemma. I like the idea of the white on Orange trellis with the blue walls and wood floors. And yes it might be a bit on the bold side, but I personally like bold kitchens. Is this the pattern you are speaking of?

If so I love it. Is the fabric you found brighter than the above panels? Either way I think it could be quite striking. Blue and Orange are opposite on the color, as you might know, so they are considered complimentary colors. I've decorated with those colors a number of times over the years and love it.

I like the idea of Betty Corning, but I'm just afraid she'll overwhelm the Westerland Rose. It would be a nice contrast and a different look, as all my other clems are large flowered. I'll check on Perle d'Azur. I did go down to my local nursery to see if they had either BC or EV but nada. So, I'll have to order from online. Thanks all for the recommendations! I've got some great ideas to think about. I'm tired of loser clems that are in their 4th year and still sleeping! I have a lot of trellis to cover for the privacy screen I'm trying to create and losers don't accomplish what I'm trying to do lol!

I actually did Chiang Mai drapes, and pillows to match. I have no idea how I got talked into that one. I could've bought a small car instead. Don't ask. BTW the Chiang Mai has many colors but a large repeat. So you have to be careful to get exactly the colors you want. That pale bluey teal by the dragon's beard, for instance, doesn't appear anywhere else in fabric, only on the dragons. I'd convo that Etsy woman to discuss the exact colors you need and ask what she can do.

Thank you, voila, for coming out of lurkdom to help me! This HAS been painful in the sense that I really dislike being in limbo, uncertain, and indecisive, which has also been time-consuming since I have been looking at paint colors off and on for 2 or 3 years, and stewing around about them trying to figure this out. To clarify regarding the Carlisle Cream with the hint of pink: this is not the trim color. I will try to see if I can find the name somewhere in my files, but the color of the trim for all of the house and most of the ceilings has a yellowish cast. The Carlisle Cream is only on the ceiling in the DR & MBR (and the paint chosen for the DR will also be used in the MBR which faces NW), as well as the walls of the mudroom, laundry, powder room, and MBath. You are correct that it fights with yellow, because the tiles have hints of yellow tones, and it does not look good there. Except for the 2 ceilings, the Carlisle Cream will be changed to something that goes better with all of the tiles and countertops that probably need a color with some yellow, rather than pink, in it. When we painted our former N facing foyer with Pittsfield Buff, it really pulled together the colors of the 2 small rugs and tile, which are almost the same as what we have now. But that is a whole nuther story. Wythe & Palladian Blues are on my "possible" list, so I will give them further consideration. The HC 139-141 at first glance under kitchen lighting seemed minty, but the lighting in the LR is halogen, so they look different in there. I will need to see them on a sunny day. Another vote for HC 146, 147, and Gray Wisp is good! And I really like your suggestion of Quiet Moments. It is interesting that you say, "all greens seem to go together", which I had heard before. The reason I got a new LR rug was that my old one had multiple colors of green and greenish gold on a cream field, and to me it clashed with the fireplace in daylight. I moved it into the kitchen eating area that has the same slate tile on the other side of the 2-way FP where it only gets light from the NW which is not directly on it as it is in the LR, and it looks perfect in the different light! Also, if I turned the LR rug around, it would look much better upon entering the room, but to me the green from that direction looks awful with the FP green. I think it will be a lot easier to choose the DR paint than that for the LR. I will definitely pursue looking at grayed colors for both rooms, but I would still like to try maybe a rich tan that does not lean to red or yellow and see if that could work in the LR to pull out those colors in the rug, but maybe nothing will do this? I suppose that would only add to the blendy feeling that I am so good at achieving. I had originally imagined having a sort of rich, dark cream, but I guess that would mean yellow, so it is out. A correction regarding the "drapes." They are actually 4 drapery panels on each side of a 7 ft triple casement that help to set off the piano and a small chest near the creamy beige rug, and at each end of a 4 window bank (each 42" wide) next to the chest and behind the mauve wing-back near the FP. They are not directly next to the 9 x 12 "green" rug. The 2 rugs are separated by the sofa, so you do not see much of the Bokhara when entering the LR. Well, after an agonizing and stressful search for a color, I am doing Raspberry Truffle after all. I had patches of every color on the walls...from Cardboard by SW, to Kona by BM. Nothing hit me. Then I decided to paint a larger square of RT. Almost a full wall next to the windows. I painted 3 coats and I am going with it. I also tried Cottage red (nice but almost maroon) and Pomegranite (close second). I primed and painted all the woodwork today. When he came home and saw a chocolate brown swatch, I think red didn't look so bad to him!! Tmr I am taking off and hitting the paint store early. I will let you know how it comes out. BTW, I asked the Benj.Moore dealer if he could mix Tobacco Road. I figured I would use the aura paint. He couldn't find it on the computer as some other's have suggested. I will use Sherwin Williams recipe since it looks almost perfect to my eye. I was curious given all the hoopla about the "original version".

Your kitchen is beautiful! The orange would definitely change the look, but it could be a good look. I think if the orange is more on the rusty side vs bright orange it would work.

I really like the idea of the fabric on roman shades.

I just did up a virtual to help you see how the fabric in a mixture of panels in the dining room and valances or roman shades could work in the kitchen.

Justgotabeme, WOW. I need to learn to do this kind of stuff.

Anyway, that's great stuff. If we go this route, we definitely need to incorporate this color in accent pieces throughout the space. We feel it really ties the various rooms in our home together, but I am getting concerned it may be too bold and needs to be toned down. Based on this mock up (again, it is so cool), I would point out that the picture of the room is dark, and the curtains are very bright.

I am thinking we need to get the bolt of cloth from Calico Corners for the weekend and hang it over the window and then take pics.

You guys are the best and I appreciate your feedback. And yes, DW is Dear Wife. I know it is usually DH, but hey, you don't think that she is the designer, builder, contractor, architect, or tradesman here do you?

Ha ha! Whit, I've been super stressed the last few weeks getting everything accomplished before we left for Cali last Saturday. Then having trouble with WordPress while trying to write my article Monday finished me off. I was a total wreck, so doing your virtual yesterday was fun. I was so exhausted that I didn't get out of my jammies yesterday until it was time to get ready to get dinner. Normally I'm up and dressed within minutes. So as you might imagine, my brain was just not functioning well enough to get the DW as Dear Wife right away.
If you'd like to take better, truer color, photo I'll be happy to do another virtual for you.

justgottobeme, how did you do the "virtual"?

IMHO, the orange trellis curtains look great (bold, and great) in the dining area, but adding the valance in the kitchen is what makes it "too much". I think I'd prefer a more neutral shade or shutters in the kitchen (or nothing, depending on your view - in and out).

LOVE the orange and white trellis! Looks fab and yes, it is somewhat bold, but also a classic look. Really looks great with your walls, much more so than the gray and white. The gray and white gets a little lost.

Hope you go with it!

There were a number of similar trellis prints to the Kelly Wearstler Shumacher Imperial Trellis in a variety of colorways -- including an orange that was more muted.

Per the other thread, if you wanted to cut down on the graphic impact of the one at CC, you could do what Peacock did in his home (except in the inverse) and do a comparable linen roman blind (or valance) with grosgrain ribbon accents in the orange.

(funny thing-- I noticed my dog bed has the same print in green!)

sjhockeyfan, I was planning on taking the hotel shuttle to San Francisco (Union Square area) tomorrow, but after the comparative little walking I did today and the way my feet and lower back hurt I think I'll wait until next week so I can build up some stamina.

Sharks!! At least it's not the Kings. Habs fan as a kid, but now hard not to like the Hawks or the Pens. So bring it.

We are still leaning toward curtains, but how do you not love what Peacock does?
