A/C Advice please - I'm clueless
Comments (6)Dual Fuel means installing a heat pump outside instead of a AC only unit - i.e. the "fuel" is electric, the gas becomes the backup source. It is not as important if you are on natural gas, but worth considering anyway IMO. It may only add a few hundred dollars to the job, but could provide you with substantial heating cost savings in addition to the new cooling system. Refrigerant lines need to be flushed or replaced when switching refrigerants, which you should be doing (your existing system uses Freon, which is being phased out, most new systems use R410A, aka Puron). They need to make sure the lines are the right size too. Replacing the furnace may not be needed - just understand that you won't get anywhere near 17 or 21 SEER without a variable speed fan available in the higher end models today. Fixing the leak is always an option too. It could extend the life for a few more years. If you plan on being in the house forever, then it makes sense to really evaluate your usage and energy costs to see what the best path is for your unique situation. A good salesperson should help you with this, but it sometimes takes calling several companies to find the person willing to take the extra time....See MoreNot enough upholstery fabric!
Comments (13)jakabedy:"...Did you order the right amount of fabric but it came in short? If so, I would think the shop/supplier could work with you to get it without the upcharge..." We looked at the fabric a few days before Christmas but at the time we still didn't know how much we'd need for the design, so we took a sample home. We finalized the design and I figured out the approximate yardage, given that I wasn't precisely sure about the size of the repeat. We tried to go back to the shop the next day but we had a snow storm and the shop was closing early for the holidays anyway, so we couldn't have made from here to Santa Fe in time before they closed. But the young woman on the phone was very cool about extending the sale price to me because of the circumstances. We returned when they opened again after the holidays, but discovered only then that the bolt was short a couple yards. So we asked about ordering the couple yards needed in addition to what was on the bolt, and it was then that we were told that the bolt price was a bulk order price, and anything more that I'd need would not be available at the sale price but would be the regular, $99./yd price. So we decided to abandon the fabric and try something else. We actually did buy the fabric in the second sample above, and I think it will work just fine. jakabedy: "...Looking at the plans, I'm confused a bit about what exactly will be upholstered..." The settle is mostly oak, but the seat will have 3 cushions. The back has the 3 inset panels that will be padded and upholstered on the front, but with unpadded upholstery covering the back of the same panels. I did think of mixing fabrics, but I've got several small areas of different fabrics going on in the room so I thought I should have one or 2 larger pieces of furniture with only one pattern of fabric on them (I think we'll also use the second choice fabric on the recliner my husband is going to make...after he's done with this project!) mrsmarv: "Have you checked out Fabric Guru . com?" I was hoping to get some ideas here on where to look for the foam--I'll try that, thanks! And thanks, squirrelheaven, I'm taking any and all suggestions for future reference! Thanks, tishtoshnm!...See MoreI'm clueless about what goes in my china cabinet (lots of photos)
Comments (29)"It's a house, not a museum. If you're only displaying stuff because it's pricey, antique, etc, then what's the point?" Ideefixe, I assume you are talking to me b/c I am the only one who didn't like the boxes. (Well, I like the boxes, just not in the china cabinet.) I don't think an object has to be pricey or antique to be displayed, but everytime I see those boxes, I picture a husband yelling "Honey, where did you put the stamps?" I think it is because the largest box has that silver rivet or snap on the side. They remind me of the canvas boxes that I just purchased at Target for my stationery supplies. They are pretty and functional, but their function doesn't seem suited to a formal dining room. Everything else in the OP's dining room is so polished and refined, the boxes feel like the odd man out. Just wanted to clarify so you wouldn't think that I'm a dollar-sign snob....See MoreI'm going through 'Mentalpause'
Comments (46)I surprised myself last year....got blue drapes & blue/gold/taupey bedding. I already had Wilmington Tan walls & it worked. I plan on painting my master bath a blue color - it has a limestone counter & travertine flooring/tiles. I find it very peaceful. My MIL had her LR/DR in the 60's done in celery & blue - I have seen pics & it was gorgeous. It would work today - she used classic pieces & antiques. Here is an old shot of my bedroom...I have changed to a white matelasse & plan on getting a Target upholstered headboard. I also plan on painting the nightstands a crusty blue. Oh, and changing out the pic frames on nightstand & what else??..... This was a chair my neighbor gave me a long time ago - found a cute blue/tan zebra print for it. I love the rug that you got. Kmcg & Funky - (love your headboard) - your rooms will be gorgeous with the flax bosporus!! I am using the brighter colorway in my guestbed & maybe living room. Smiles:)...See MoreSueb20
