what would you like/don't like in a finished basement?
Comments (3)We have finished our basement in our old house and again in our new place. Most important - lights - we put in 1.5 more high hats in our basement that we did on our first or second floors where we have more natural light. We put in a half bathroom if we had the room I would have put in a shower stall - a half bathroom is nice when you have company or if you have children their friends are over and they can stay in the basement and leave the adults alone and vice versa. We also put in a lot of built in storage areas with doors. We put in carpet and as long as you have good HVAC system you won't have any musty odors....See MoreWarning! Comments (15)Michoumonster, the corbels are 41 1/4" tall, about 7 1/2" deep and 7" wide. I'm not losing any cabinet space because they are supporting a raised granite bar. They're taking up leg/seating space. Well worth it to me. I wanted room to seat three people at the bar and should be able to fit four. Very excited to see things coming together. Especially happy at the moment because I just found a backsplash tile that is less than a 1/3 the price of the tile I was planning on using. Plus it is IN STOCK instead of a three week lead time. Oh happy day! About 8 years ago I experienced a nightmare of a kitchen remodel. An absolute nightmare. I must have paid my dues because my contractor now has been a dream come true. Love everything about him. Great guy, great ideas, patient, totally listens to me and pleasant to have around. We're on schedule, on budget (the budget we agreed to after I busted my original budget lol) and my dog likes him. Comments (11)How about this one :o) Tuna Twinkie Soufflé 1 Tbl rendered chicken fat, divided 12 Hostess Twinkies Salt White Pepper 1/2 tsp dry mustard 4 eggs, separated 2 cans tuna in oil, drained, reserve oil. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a 7-inch soufflé dish with 1 tsp of chicken fat and 1 tsp tuna oil. Slice Twinkies in half lengthwise. Remove and reserve cream filling. In a large food processor, combine Twinkie cakes, half of the Twinkie filling, and the remaining chicken fat and tuna oil. Blend until the mixture has reached the consistency of a thin batter. Transfer ingredients to a medium saucepan and cook over low heat. Stir in salt, white pepper, and mustard. Remove from heat. Beat in egg yolks, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Fold in tuna. In a medium bowl, beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Fold beaten egg whites into tuna mixture. Pour into greased soufflé dish. Bake in 350 oven 40 to 45 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Top with remaining Twinkie cream. Serve with a tossed salad. Comments (17)For three days now, I have been seeing a rather large spider crawling across the top shelf of my computer desk. I haven't tried to catch it to put it outside, because grabbing among all the stuff on the shelf would result in a disaster. It must be difficult to go through life fearful of bugs, spiders, snakes, etc. I don't have that fear, in fact for the most part I find them fascinating, and in the case of spiders, when practical, adopt a live and let live attitude. My mother was the same, as is my sister and my children. But in my husbands family, they all are more fearful. So I am wondering if a persons feelings about such things are inherited or perhaps learned....See Moreineffablespace
