Keep in mind that this granite only cost $29.99 per square foot installed. I know it's not as unique as many other countertops I have seen here, but for the price it is great!

Try changing the light bulbs ... it may make it all look warmer.

Do you have two different color temperatures for the lighting in the kitchen? It looks like you might have lights that are a different temperature over the island as opposed to the rest of the kitchen. I would say it's a difference in daylight hitting, but looking at the counter where the sink is, I would expect to see it looking greyer also, and it doesn't.

But, yes, in your image, there is a definite change in warmth between the island counter and the floor. Not so much in the perimeter.

I have a feeling the color is off (pictures never do color justice) but could you find some backsplash tile that would bring the colors all together? It is so hard to not take advantage of great pricing--good job! See if you can find some nice glass or mixed tiles to tie it all together. Good luck!

All of the light bulbs are the same. I actually don't even have the pendant lights above the island installed yet. I could definitely play around with different types of bulbs and see if that helps. I think the lighting difference is natural light from the windows (which there are a lot of in this room) vs the incandescent recessed lighting. I am still trying to pick out the backsplash and I am hoping that pulls it all together. I honestly think I'm just being silly about this. It's not exactly what I had in my head and I just need to get over it and keep moving. Here is another picture with all the lights off and of course it appears to match better in this shot. Thank you all for your suggestions!

I still need to grout too incase you were wondering. I just grouted where the cabinets were going and then we had to hurry up and get the cabinets installed before the granite people came. Maybe I could pick a new grout color that helps tie in the ctop too.

You're not being silly, but in the second picture the floor doesn't look bad with it and so brown. Photos distort so it's hard to tell how much you see in person. If you can bring a little of the warmth of the floor into the backsplash and accessories it will have something to connect to and flow better (first picture). You might even look for hardware that has some warm and cool in it.

Maybe it is the pictures and the lighting but I personally cannot see how those two materials could be expected to be the same colors and they do not even look like the same zip code!

It's really hard to be honest when someone has gone through a lot of expense and then asks if it works after the fact. I see a yellow-brown floor and a gray and white countertop. The floor feels rustic/Tuscan and the counter has a contemporary feel. I don't think grout will help tie them together, and the backsplash will make things even more complicated.

I respectfully disagree with may_flowers. I think all neutrals go together, even tan and grayish. I think a harmonizing backsplash will pull it together.

Are you thinking of replacing one of them? Other than that, you can only try to tie things together.

While not perfect, I don't think the color difference is glaring enough to replace either one. If a change in light bulbs doesn't help then also look at bringing in more decor (rug, WTs, backsplash, a few colorful items on the counters). Right now there is not much to draw the eye other than the floor and counters and so you tend to focus on that. Also it will be very important what wall color you choose. I'm not quite sure what to suggest but I do know that some shades of greens can make tile look pinkish so get some paint suggestions, buy some sample pots and put up on the wall near the tile areas and observe at various times of day.

this is the analysis that occurs before all the elements are placed and lived with...I think you did great! Area rugs or mats/backsplash/hardware/changing light bulbs/countertop occupants/window shade/blinds or other......ALL still to come.....this counter works in that it ties the stainless into the scheme and the smaller pattern is in scale with your size kitchen.....Re the floor: what happens is it shows around the edges and recedes due to mats/runners/etc... I wouldn't change anything..keep going to get to your finish!

I bet is you posted close-ups of both the counter and the floors that show as realistically as possible the actual colors of both, that folks on this forum would have great suggestions for backsplash, paint, and accent colors that will tie it together. I'm certainly not an expert in any of that, but you'll see often on this forum that when the big elements go in, people are initially taken back because it doesn't look the same as it did in their mind's eye. As others have said, it's also when your kitchen is at its starkest--no backplash, paint, rugs, things on the counter--all the stuff that softens the space and brings it together.

I do appreciate the honesty but I also agree that the pictures just aren't doing it justice. The countertop colors are not showing at all in pictures. Below are some close ups. Thank you Anne2326 for suggesting that.

Replacing one is definitely not an option. The more I walk into the space the more I accept it and like everyone says I need to keep going before judging it as the whole picture. Like in the earlier pictures I think I see a color difference between the two as I stand back further and all of the ctop colors melt together. When I am actually in the kitchen space seeing them up close they make more sense together.

I think it's fine. Looking at the close ups you posted, they go together. Don't panic. It's going to be a rich looking kitchen when you're done - those cabs are very elegant. And what a deal on the granite! Congrats!

Looks fine to me. I wonder if you grout with a cooler color if that would help get the floor closer to the coolness of the granite. Looks to me like both the tile and the granite have a mixture of cooler and warmer colors. The granite just has a little more of the former than the floor. Love the cabinet color, by the way.

Don't panic. Just like another poster pointed out - once all of your elements are in the kitchen, you won't be focusing on what you think is wrong.

We renovated our entire home. After our tile was installed, I almost cried. 2 months later, I realized it was the perfect choice. Sometimes it takes a little "living" in a space to appreciate it.

I see no problem with the two together. I think once you have a backsplash, grout and hardware etc and all is said and done you will be happy! It is a lovely kitchen btw!

Obviously the photos are distorting the colors, so we can't really see what you've got there. The later pictures where the floor is lighter and the counter warmer look like they work fine together. Which of the pictures look accurate to you?

Things never look or come together exactly as you imagine, and lots are different, so there is an adjustment period, say, for the counter being lighter than you expected. It looks very nice and the colors look pretty!

Or you could have my problem, panicking because everything looks so blendy. ;-) I think it looks good. There are brown tones pulling it together, at least on my monitor.

It looks to me like you have white, gray, beige, gold, and black in your counter while the floor is beige. On my monitor, it certainly looks like these two go together. I'd pick a grout that is like one of the more grayish tones in your counter but still goes with the floor.
Also, right now, your backsplash color definitely has a yellow/greenish cast, so maybe that makes the counters look more cool/gray than they are. What are your plans for backsplash and wall color?

The later pictures look more accurate during daylight, but at night the floor appears to have more red tones and the ctop appears a bit more gray. The porcelain tile has a very dull finish so it's absorbing the light while the shiny granite is reflecting it

We are still going back and forth on back splash options. I'm thinking the back splash should be simple since the ctop is so speckled and busy. I would like a combination of stone tile and glass tile, but nothing that commits me to any certain color scheme.

Knowing us it will be Christmas before we decide a wall color. I think we will stay away from colors that are too green because it will make the cabinets look too red. We have a neutral taupe, light blue/green, yellow, and gray theme going throughout the rest of the house.

It may still look okay. Because your floor has texture and your counters are busy, I'd recommend not doing a backsplash that has too much texture or patterns. Go simple. You don't want the backsplash, counters and floor to be competing for attention at the same time.

If you do end up changing something, I'd vote to change the floors to something on the gray-scale without much texture. I am a fan of grey porcelain.

Also, if you install under-cabinet lighting, that may help draw focus to the counter area instead of the floor. Just a thought.

The gray in the granite dominates the tannish color ... to bring out the tan more, you could match the tan in the backsplash and the paint.

And use a "warmer" light source, not a daylight white.

It doesn't matter what color the individual speckles are in the granite. Your eye blends them all together and gives the perception of gray. While up close you can pick out all the colors, in photos or from a distance inside your home, you see the blend. So your counter is cool while your floor is warm.

It takes some practice to be able to see the undertones in patterned materials and to imagine it installed. Sometimes I take my glasses off so I don't focus on the little bits of color.
