grout drying---should I wait to post pix of finished bs?

So... they arrived, conquered and left already. The grout is drying, which he said will take at least 12hours. Should I wait unitl it's dry to show all of you or show now, as is?

Not that it was a . . . well, silly question. But it does have me concerned considering the site you're posting on. I'm concerned that perhaps you tripped over the tools left around by the tiles guys and fell and hit your head and now have a concussion that renders you so completely unable to think clearly that you came on this site and asked if we wanted to see pictures of your kitchen. Are you okay????

Okay, I couldn't resist. Please post pictures!!! It is never wrong to post pictures of your kitchen. Never. Ever.

Ha!!!HA!!!Ha!!!POOHPUP!!!! YOU have me cracking up....I just wanted to tease you! I am downloading from camera rt now. Pix in just a few minutes. Please be honest. I want to know if I went too light with grout...I think.

LOL Ya'll are funny. I got so many comments on my bad photo taking I took it off to retake them. So I'll post pics here: I suppose I should have typed between pics....what you're seeing is the master bath :P I took a close up of the glass to show how cool it is :) We had it made for us so no one has glass like it. It's super thick and while in the big pics you see inside the cabs due to use of flash, you really can't see into it (as you see in the glass only pic). It's really just another texture. The room inspiration was my collection of medievil manuscript pages. The "art" is dated between 1350 and 1700. The majority is mid 1400. I love the soft coffe stained tones you get with antique papers. The cabs might appear black, but they're actually a rich chocolate cherry, just like the croc tile. The cabinets are Omega custom. Since they do whatever you ask for, the design was whatever I wanted LOL I went with 27" deep lowers and then it has the little jut out. The cabs have pull out drawers inside for my daily routine. I also have the little pullouts for toothpaste, soap etc., as well as toe kick drawers, tip outs, blah blah...every inch of space is used LOL People always ask about the tub...you can easily get into it by stepping up on the step, sitting down backwards (bumm on deck) and swinging your legs over to drop down into the seat that is inside. We did plan on a bigger step (one that flipped out) and we planned on using grab bars, but really they're not necessary. Frankly the tub (while it calls out for nekkid adults and good wine) is most often occupied by our 3 year old. He loves having water to his neck (he's not left alone in there obviously) and the bubbles that the air jets make. Not to mention that the water is recirculated into a warmer so it never gets cold...again not that I'd know...but given his two hour splash session...I'm guessing it works for him :) Oh and it's NOT dark in the room. The shower has it's own light inside. The room is quite well lit and gets so much sunshine that I took the pictures late at night to get them without too much shine (which made people think the room is dark). We sit on the edge of a lake and have huge windows everywhere so the room is constantly light and bright. Our wall finish was done by an artist to mimic the travertine feel, but not be specific.

Feisty I have beat you to it, the bathroom downstairs is also brick and I think it is fabulous! Will post pictures, we have a new khaki countertop and Handy Guy is painting the vanity a barn red next week. Having a soft yellow/ gold shower curtain made to hang behind the (new) arched opening over the shower/tub and cabinet person is making enough paneling for the fireplace wall to front the side of the tub. And we are ordering antique finish brass faucets and tapes for sink and shower, yay, the existing satin nickel ones look incongruous with the brick. We may install siding on one long wall of bathroom also but I only want Handy Guy to do this, not the GC's guys. ( I am anxious to get them out of my house, no one seems to own a pencil and paper, they come back endlessly, to do small jobs they could have done in one call, this is true of the electricians, carpenters and drywallers.) Lol, I have even ***pretentiously*** coined a new descriptive phrase for our basement style to encompass the brick floors, siding on interior walls, black wrought iron rails and sconces, etc.... renovated carriage house.

Yes, the hood is a Zephyr Tamburo. 400 CFMs. A piece of sculpture! So yesterday I ran around looking at tile. I picked up 8 more of the bumps and kept looking. At one point I had a vision of medium gray glass tiles, medium gray grout, grass green walls. I picked up a quart of grass green, a couple of other paint samples, and came home. Taped a sq. ft to the wall. A resounding NO. They looked brown,which would be ok except that if the soapstone darkens (which it will, I suppose, eventually) the tiles will really not work. It just looked off. Bummer. Last night I was up till all hours doing a glass tile search to find something that was less than the $27-39/sq ft I had been seeing around here. Will report in at the next round. The handles and shelves went in today. The first thing I did was start to fill the bookshelves. that horrible Minidata notebook is full of recipe clippings I will never live long enough to try. Need to organize it and maybe do something with that ugly notebook cover. A shelf of art books and then we'll see. Second thing I did was put the tea tins back on the shelf over the sink where we are used to finding them. That shelf will be usable stuff, the ones above, display for my antique tins: a counterpoint to all the sleekness. I printed out labels for the 5 mailboxes: one each for DH & me, one for my mother - whose bills I take care of, one for outgoing mail, and one for random stuff. I will have to nag DH to sort the mail instead of leaving it in a pile on the island. Grrrrrr. New leaf. Two weekly papers came in today: the one I haven't read yet is in my box. Finally, I picked up the barstools I had ordered at Crate & Barrel. $89 each and they SPIN!! What fun! I can sit and read my cookbooks at the island while I contemplate what I am going to make for dinner, instead of standing at the counter and reading. DH can sit with his laptop or pay bills at the island instead of upstairs in the 2" of space on his cluttered desk. He will do this while I am on my teaching trips, no doubt. The kitchen table will be a while in coming, although we ordered it. Thanks for the input on the tiles; they work en principe - mais pas en rÃ©alitÃ©. On continue. Tomorrow, if we are lucky, the crown molding goes up and maybe the light rail. Off now to get a decent night's sleep - or what is left of the night.

The tile is really beautiful and I think the colors blend well with the granite. I don't view the granite as "busy". However, I wouldn't suggest picking out the backsplash already before you've even begun construction. I look at the backsplash as the icing that comes after you've made the cake. I wouldn't want to pick my KD, or lack thereof, based on a B.S. You either really want this K.D. or you don't, IMHO. Besides, if you ditch the designer, and the potential for the tile discount, you'll save oodles of money anyway on designer fees and you'll be able to afford the full price. Also, with some digging, you may be able to finagle a discount on your own. I didn't use a K.D., this forum and my clear understanding of what I was trying to accomplish was all I needed. I consulted a couple of K.D., but found they really weren't listening and I could tell I was better off without them. That said, I do like the B.S., but I'd like to see the back splash samples sitting in the real kitchen before deciding if that's THE ONE. What "look" are you going for overall in your kitchen and in your new home? Is that a french country look? I visited a home for sale in Maine many years ago while on vacation. When I walked into their kitchen, I was overcome with a feeling of "home". I had never experienced anything like this before. It was almost like having a spiritual experience, lol. I took note of the details, trying to memorize as much as I could, trying to understand the "feeling" that it evoked and the elements that contributed to this feeling. When I was designing our kitchen, I tried to recreate this feeling as best I could, and was successful mainly because I found this forum and was able to pour over many photos of kitchens that also evoked this feeling I was after. The tile makes your heart sing! That's so important!! But do you have the overall vision in mind yet? Good luck on your project! Building a home is very exciting indeed.

I saw the camera icon and came back!

I really like it. The grout color matching the tile is great. What stands out is the way the light plays off of the tiles' directions. So the tile and the overall look stands out, not the grout.

AND you got your pendants hung. They look great!

Lovely! You can tell there is a lot of haze on the tile so it is only going to get even better. I can tell that the camera isn't doing it justice.

I was so focused on the tile that didn't even notice you didn't have your counters yet! What are you doing on your counters??

I'd have tiled all my kitchen walls if I could have. *sigh*

It's beautiful. Don't make the grout darker because the way the light plays off of the tile shows the tile off and that's the star.

Gorgeous! I am a huge fan of blending the grout color with the tile, so to me, yours looks perfect! Love the design, and it looks like they did a terrific job installing it.

Love the tile and the pattern. I know what you mean about not being able to get pictures that show tile at its best. It looks great even if the pictures aren't doing it justice. Can't wait to see it with the countertops.

I am never here anymore, it's a bit chaotic with the 3 little ones. But, I had to sign in and gush. Please post photos when the counters go in. I was so close to doing Pebble perimeters. I know I'm going to have a regret ish Friday.....

OK. I'm bored of subways.

I generally think same-colored grout is timid.

Herringbone is so done.

However--yours looks great. The reason is that you took a subtle texture and made a big impact with it--using the herringbone everywhere, including over the cabs. To me, if someone wants subtle, they still have to go big with something, as you've done. And the full-wall look is very clean.

Beautiful! I'm absolutely loving the herringbone. In what sort of style and/or era of house/decor/architecture does a herringbone backsplash style work? I'm loving your backspash so much, but I'm afraid my home might not be quite traditional enough.

Oh it's beautiful Annsch! I love the herringbone, it adds so much interest, so amazingly well put together.

I bet you are counting down the hours now. Wish we had a GW countdown clock!

Can't wait to see it after the counters go in tomorrow.
