Would it make a difference?

Here's my dilemma. We have an old bed that my DH's mother gave to DH when he was wed to his first wife. He cherishes this bed, because his mom died of cancer at a young age, and this was her last "gift" to him. Even though it wasn't even given to "us", he won't listen to the idea of getting a new bed. My son gave us a lovely queen size sleigh bed that's sitting in the attic......

Long story short, I can't change the dated headboard, which I've grown to hate. All I can do is change the scenery around the headboard, which I try to hide as much as I can with bed shams, pillows and the like. I'm not crazy about the small swing arm lamps and want to change them out for some new ones. We love having wall lamps by the bed, and don't want to use table lamps. I've seen these arched lamps at Pottery Barn that I like.

They are taller, and the shades are wider and larger than what's there right now. Do you think these would work here, or should I be doing something else?
