If you live near a Rejuvenation Hardware, they have some that are 50% off currently (in green and red.) I don't see them online, though.

They are vintage SHINY BRITE ornaments. Now that you know the name, they are easy to find but I warn you, they are not cheap these days.

Just found a bunch on ebay. The one in the front is called stencil.

We have some of those from my parents...love the blue in these!!

Awesome - Thank you all! I always forget Shiny Brite but will remember from here on out. I've picked up vintage ornaments over the years but have never really done anything w/ them until this year. 99% of the ones that I have are solid too and I'd like some w/ pattern and writing on them.

While I was doing my chandelier I found a small box of mini's that my Mom gave me. Very, very pleased w/ the DR so far.

i would go for the real thing rather than reproduction. shiney brights are easy to find on ebay and etsy, as well as antique stores, flea markets, etc. They are not always expensive. I've collected those and vintage tinsel and scrap onaments for some time. The one with the "pushed in" place is called an indent. There are also double indents (both side indented).

Macys.com has a lot of Christmas ornaments. They're all on sale. A few years ago after Christmas I bought quite a few vintage-like ornaments. I got some in the light blue color you have above. It's worth checking out to see if they still sell the vintage-like ornaments.

I have some real vintage ornaments but they've lost their shine. That's the problem with buying old vintage.

I have probably a thousand ornaments of that decade (I do a lot of trees). the were all purchased at shop goodwill dot com off season. Shiny brite is something you can find daily there, and at less or close to a dollar an ornament off season. Mixing and matching the muted colors of those days makes a magical tree :) Shop after the holidays and you'll be ready for next year ;)

Oaklyok!! I was just Going to go dig out my box to see what mine were!! I had not used them in several years, because we had a feral cat we were reforming.....we just used the wooden ornaments on a tabletop tree.

I was so glad I only lost a few over the storage time!!

Just an FYI: Dee's link to JC Penny is less expensive for the new Radko Shinybrite ornaments than Radko's own site is.

Now that I know what they are called I've been non-stop on E-bay! Haven't bought any yet - will wait until Summer or so. I have a hole in the wall thrift shop near me that I bet has some so after the holidays I am going to head over there for regular checking. I've also told my mom what I'm looking for so that she can grab them when they come into any of the other dealers stalls where she works PT.

You know i passed some up at Home Goods and I'm kicking myself. I might swing by today if I get out early enough.

Ohhhh you have an old house :) I personally feel that the muted colors of the old ornaments are so well suited to an old house :) much more so than new ornaments are. I feel like they just kind of "fit".

Here are a couple of my trees...and don't mind the horrific drapes, those will go when I get to this room for restoration LOL

Obviously I'm a bit obsessed with the old ornaments :) They are all pretty well loved (that means faded, sprayed with the occasional flocking in their lifetime, or if paper, slightly bent or folded) but someone let them go and I'm happy to be their new family :)

I ordered some mini Shiny Brites from JC Penney s suggested and I could not be more thrilled w/ them! I've been trolling Ebay and getting a 'feel' of what is available and for how much. I susect I will begin bidding in a few months or so.

Oy, you should see my neighbors' house! He has literally thousands of old glass ornaments... He's been collecting over 45 years though.

And when you're done looking for those, look up spinners, and bubble lights, and Matchless stars... And say goodbye to your money! Lol. Vintage Christmas is a high dollar game these days.

Love the thread. I'm almost 66 years old. My tree is decorated entirely with my grandmother's and my parent's shiny bright ornaments and the ornaments I made in the late 1960s when I was newly married. These were the ornaments that are made on velvet balls, or spun silk balls, decorated with braid, pearls, sequins, little crystals, etc. Each time I decorate my tree it's a wonderful trip down a lifetime of memories. I've always wondered what will happen to my ornaments when I'm no longer "up" for doing the tree. Many of the shiny brights are in the original boxes. Many of them look exactly like the OP -- the ornament with the indenetation that's beautifully decorated. I LOVE these. I'm so glad there are others out there who think the same thing. Igloochic....I really liked your trees.

Well Beth, you can send them straight to me, lol! I will care for and admire them for years to come. I remember my great grandmother making ornaments every year out of sequins, beads and decorative pins. That was Christmas to me! I wish I knew what happened to them. While they aren't my style it is what says 'Christmas is here!' to me.
