A good, vintage-y Ben Moore cabinet yellow?
Comments (54)The thing with yellow is that it "blows up" the more surface area it covers, am I right? I wanted my cabinets to "read" BM Fresh Butter. To do that, I could not actually paint them that color. You really have to Ignore the chip colors almost entirely and be prepared to pick a dirty yellow/more brown than seems advisable color. For me, that came down to Vellum. I also looked at BM Goldfinch, but it was just a bit too brown even "blown up." In the bright sunlight, the sink base cabinets really do read BM Fresh Butter to me, until I hold the chip up to them. Then, they don't. Yellow is the hardest color - also because the color takes several coats (often) to fully develop (so its a pain to swatch it). The cabinet color was the hardest part of my kitchen plan. When you see my mood board at the final reveal, you'll still see the Fresh Butter strip :-). I couldn't let it go (and the Vellum strip is just "meh")....See MoreYellow suggestions to match this photo
Comments (25)Thanks so much for the suggestions! I will get some swatches when I'm back in Nova Scotia. Down in South Florida now, wish I were doing a laundry room down here. All those yummy old school pastels and brights look so good down here. Joseph Gould house by Hiss associates, 1955, renovated 1994. Comments (29)I had a color consultant help me (I'm painting 11+ rooms and hallways and I wanted saturated colors in a hurry). She helped me narrow it down to 2 to 4 colors per room. We went thru many BM yellows and ended with 2155-50 Suntan Yellow (a bit orangy) and HC-4 Hawthorne Yellow. She told me to try it in a few places on the walls (2' x 3') and feather the edges. After a few weeks we're going with hawthorne yellow - painting on Tues. (we have medium cherry cabinets, typhoon bordeaux granite, red range and natural oak floors). Red in the dining room (4 variatons still on the wall), lilac in the sitting room (samples go up tomorrow), green and yellow in the office - you can view all these rooms while standing in one room. I have a dark blue for a half bath and haven't decided on a few other rooms....See Morex-post Help for a Yellow Sunroom
Comments (83)Hi Lori Sawaya, I have been reading this thread with interest because I have been trying to find a Benjamin Moore yellow to replace a light yellow that has been in my living room for over twenty years. It is a yellow paint color an acquaintance used in her house that was a custom-match (to what I do not know) in Coronado paint. I, and everyone else that likes yellow, really like this yellow, but I would prefer to use Benjamin Moore paint when we repaint. When we originally painted the room, I tried to have our Benjamin Moore dealer custom-match the yellow and it was a poor match, so I ended up using the Coronado paint. I have recently tried a dozen, or so, Benjamin Moore yellow Color Samples (on Mighty Boards, rather than on the wall) and the closest matches in terms of value? are Weston Flax HC-5 and Goldtone OC-112, although they are a tiny bit more grayed down (which I like because they look better with the other Benjamin Moore paint colors in my house). The hue? (color) is somewhere between Weston Flax and Goldtone. I found your Munsell Color Notations for BM Off-White Colors and it places the hue for Goldtone at Y 2.59. Pale Moon is at Y 4.10, which may be the closest to Weston Flax. If you could provide the notations for Weston Flax I would really appreciate it (I am also curious what they are for Windham Cream HC-6 and Hawthorne Yellow HC-4, to compare with Weston Flax). Goldtone seems a bit too peachy with my upholstery (a linen print with a muted yellow/flax colored background), so I am tempted to try Weston Flax first, although the room faces north and I am a bit afraid it will show a green cast. I have considered Summer Harvest, but haven’t bought a sample of it because I was afraid it would be a bit tan like some of the more muted yellows I tried. Thanks so much for any information you can provide! lexy-02...See Moreilanab
