help me find SOFT extra deep pocket sheets?

I will admit to being a bit of the "princess and the pea" when it comes to my bed. I've got aches and pains and issues so we have a pillow top bed with a thick memory foam mattress topper. Sleeping away from home is hell for me because the beds are always so hard. Sheets are also tough both in finding a texture I like and then, finding ones that fit the bed.

I need EXTRA DEEP POCKETS and I need SOFT.

I dislike the "crisp" sheets that many people enjoy. For the past few years we've been using some "modal" sheets from Bed, Bath and Beyond. (Not the jersey ones.) The softness has been perfect but they don't come in extra deep pockets so we've been hassling with that every night. (Tried the garter belt straps and they are a pain and rip the sheets.

The Egyptian sheets that so many people swear by are not soft to me. I recently bought a new bottom sheet from BBB of the only extra deep pockets I could find. It was softish in the store but once I brought it home and washed it, it got rougher instead of soft. Sigh.

I can't be the only one who likes really soft sheets. Does anyone know of any extra deep pocket sheets that are soft? I'm thinking maybe silk but I can't find them in extra deep pockets.

How deep do the pockets have to be? Can you measure the mattress and topper?

Absolutely the softest sheets I have ever had were a set of the jersey knit cotton sheets from Land's End. It almost felt as if there was nothing on the bed, they were that soft. They say they will fit up to a 17" mattress, but because the sheets have some natural stretch, you could probably go up to 18" and still be okay.

If you don't want a knit sheet, The Company Store has extra-deep pocket sheets in both flannel, which is pretty soft, and Supima cotton, that will fit up to a 20" mattress.

I bought these this fall and they are the softest sheets I have ever had. And I have a deep king mattress but the sheets went on very easily with plenty of room for several more inches of depth.

Ann, I would like to address your question about what the builders were thinking when your house was designed. Builders and architects are mostly men (and I am a man as well, and so I know) who only think about the exterior of a building when they are designing/building it, and in general, each building is a monument to their ego. Being an interior & furniture designer, I know plenty of architects, and this rule holds true for most of them. If they were smart, they would hire an interior designer to design the interior part of the house, but they mistakenly think that they can do it themselves and frequently do not allow enough space for closets, pantry, upper kitchen cabinets, etc. When I was in design school, I had a roommate who was studying architecture, and he asked me to help him with kitchens because kitchen design was not taught to the architects, other than the bare basics. He was an exceptional student and had respect for my work. He was also from Hong Kong. Some architects are good at interior design, but these are ones who have their egos under control and want to please the client more than themselves. I was in design school in the 1980s, and so things may be getting better now than they used to be, but back then, architects were at all out war with interior designers and had no respect for us. I do think that is changing, but many houses were built designed by inferior architects. Otherwise we would see more spacious linen closets along with better storage in bathroooms. Lars

Oh liriodendron wherefore art thou with the linen sheets info? Times a running out for me to order! Would anyone else have a preferred brand of linen sheets??? Edited for update: I should have started a seperate post on the linen sheet thing. ! I ordered a 100 % linen fitted sheet from Linoto. I don’t know what I’m doing! They seem nice as far as reviews go. Why I picked this company… I could just buy the one fitted sheet to try instead of a whole set, they have nice color choices to match already purchased bedding and they have deep pockets, *made in the U.S.A, and I don’t have time to look anymore. So, done! I so hope this will help, along with the other purchases on the night time hot flashes. I hope my husband doesn’t get the urge to beat me with the bedside lamp if I start tossing and turning, pulling covers on, pulling covers off…and all in a little full size bed lol. Thanks everyone! It's no fun having a son going off to college. He won't shop, has no interest in anything other than what kind of TV he can have in his room. I asked him what color he'd like, and he said it didn't matter. I'm thinking about buying him hot pink as a joke. However, the joke would be on me since I'd have to return them... I was on overstock.com last month and they had twin XL memory foam mattress pads, so I ordered him one because he loves his memory foam mattress topper on his bed at home. When I asked him if he wanted one for the dorm, he told me no, he'd just take the one he had. I said, how will that work since your bed now is a queen and your dorm will be a twin. It honestly hadn't occurred to him that it wouldn't fit. I fear one day his wife will come to my house and just smack me. He's messy, leaves cupboards open as he makes himself a snack in the kitchen, leaves his shoes by the door, drapes his clothes on the kitchen chair/FR couch and it generally oblivious to his surroundings. When I yell at him, he picks the things up, closes the cupboards etc...but he does it again the next time. I've failed miserably to train this one well. At least he's not a punky teen. He's polite, hard working and does well in school. Just a nightmare to live with!! At his college orientation session during the parent meeting we were all talking about parental concerns etc. and one parent commented that changing the sheets on these dorm loft beds was a nightmare. Knowing my son, I raised my hand and said - that's a big assumption that they will ever change their sheets. I'm hoping for once a quarter.

Put up your floor plan. There might be other options. If you have the 12", a pull out cabinet with a Rev-A-Shelf pull out might provide you with an alternative space for spices or remove two of the shelves like I did and have a place for tall oils and vinegars. I used the space above my double ovens, or even the deep cabinet above my refrigerator for my trays, cutting boards and tall baking pans. That's why a proposed floor plan to illustrate your situation would be helpful. There may be alternatives you haven't considered.

The softest I've found is a high thread-count cotton sateen. Sateen being the key word.

They say this type of weave doesn't last as long as others but I didn't find that to be true. I'm a princess, too, when it comes to my sleep and as soft as these are wouldn't care if I had to buy them yearly!

I used to get Wamsutta extra-deep and they fit my gargantuan pillow-top mattress. The flat sheet was also oversized, which was nice because my husband is always stealing the covers.

I now have a Sleep Number and the mattress is so thin I have trouble finding sheets for it. Small price to pay considering how much we love the Sleep Number.

Consumer reports also rated Wamsutta pretty high.

Without a doubt, the softest sheets I have (and they are the only ones I will buy now) are from Macys. Its their brand "Charter Club) 500 thread count damask stripe (they come in stripe and solid). They come in regular size (fits 18") and extra deep (fits 22"). I have had these for years, and they wash perfectly. I haven't lost a set yet.! Wash before putting on your bed - you will love them

We have a Tempur-Pedic mattress which is very heavy and very deep. We love our Sealy BestFit sheets. I can't say if they're softer than any other sheet we've ever tried, but they are soft enough for us. The best part is the knit section on each end of the fitted sheets which stretches so easily and gives a wonderful fit on our extra-deep mattress. They don't come in particularly attractive colors, but we put up with that to get the fitted sheet with the end panels.

Barbarany, I agree! DH also likes soft, non-crisp sheets. When we got our new pillow-top king-size bed this summer, off he went to a Macy's sale (first time he'd shopped for linens alone, lol), and returned with these and we love them.

Susan, I am a mass of aches and pains and being on the road can be a trial of uncomfortable beds. If we're in a place for more than one night, we look for Embassy Suites, which has upgraded its beds over the last 4-5 years, or Homewood Suites, a Western franchise that is an incredible bargain, considering what you get. Also, I always ask for lots of extra pillows so that I can make myself a soft-ish cave that helps mitigate the creaky joints and muscles.

But really - try the Macy's Charter Club brand!

I have the sateen sheets from Kohls luxury collection. They are 600 thread count and very soft. They fit up to 18 inches.

help me find SOFT extra deep pocket sheets?
