2013...as the year ends
Comments (14)Good morning Doug The blind dog that we named Merlin looks like he has 7 lives like the cats.:) After he was adopted, the new parent had to take him to the emergency room, he had kidney stones and they operated 2 weeks ago. Monday we picked him up and he is recovering with us during the day, nights and weekends he goes to his new home. Last weekend he took him to Gainsville and I noticed yesterday that he was lethargic, not his usual self, we found a tick and did the best to remove it and took him to the vet again. Today he is doing great. He is working in the garden today And yes books and magazines are perfect for re-gifting and next time that I see you I have the perfect book for you that I got when I went to Monticello... Don't forget the herbs to bring in the happy new year! I am adding cedar and some bark from the Amazon today... Silvia...See MoreIt's October 2013. How is your build part 2!
Comments (70)flgargoyle - why the name change? Just curious. Good to see your post and glad to hear you are still at it! Congrats on passing your inspections. I am sure it is a bit more intense when you are the contractor/home owner. Can't wait to see more pics. We have a shed dormer in the front that is the small open area upstairs. I like it but sometimes wish we had 2 for bedrooms instead. :) So dh drove by the property this morning - 3 inches of rain in the basement. Rained all day long but a slight reprieve for trick-or-treat. It's back raining again now though. I cannot wait until we've got it boxed in - weather tight!...See Morepost a pic ..part ll..a slice of your life...
Comments (152)I just wanted to say thank you again for the sweet, sweet comments! We have two boys (2.5 and 6) and I never thought that we would make the jump from 2 to 4 children all at once, but we are looking forward to it! I hope that the picture thread continues! It's been so much fun to see what everyone shares! awm03: That is an amazing picture! jillinnj: I wish I was there too! I told DH that we need to go on vacation somewhere now, because we're probably never going on vacation again after the babies arrive! ;-)...See MorePart V...Slice of Life
Comments (150)There are a number of problems with what she is doing. First it is best to use weights to make this kind of bread...you can't just say " about 1/3 c of starter " . Won't work. This is supposed to be a very wet dough. So her measurements for water aren't off but she didn't allow for the wet starter ! You are starting with something that is quite difficult unless you are used to working with wet doughs. Jim Lahey has a wonderful and easy wet dough to try first before you use a sourdough wet dough . He doesn't use weights but his formula is impossible to mess up. I would be glad to give you a perfect formula for a sourdough boule like you are trying to make and it is tried and true as I use it all the time. The weights are very accurate and it is fool proof.Do the link first a few times though. The other problem with her starter/possibly your starter is the way it is being fed and stored. It has to be fed = parts water and flour every single day. It has to have 1/2 of it thrown out every single day for the first week and then add in the new flour and water. This makes it very healthy and prevents over-growth of unwanted bacteria and helps the good yeast thrive. Another thing is how it is stored. It must only be lightly covered. It has to be really stirred every day and kept only lightly covered as yeasts are aerobic and need oxygen to thrive. I don't know how she got her starter going. I have a t&t formula for that too :) Mine has been growing very happily for 4 years and I use it weekly. There is something wrong with the Youtube as I kept getting an echo and couldn't get it to play right so I gave up ! The temp in your house isn't too cool. A healthy starter loves cooler temps. Try the link below a few times and get used to wet doughs and then I will give you a wonderful sd formula !! Let me know how it goes. c Here is a link that might be useful: Jim Lahey NYT...See Moreedie_thiel
