Where can I find SOFT ruffled sheets?
Comments (13)Thank you, shermann. I love her room - it's the one that I would have like to have had as a little girl :-) I'm not sure if the Shabby Chic sheets would be soft enough, but her dust ruffle if from the Shabby Chic line (bought 50% off when the stores closed) and it's a much softer percale than the others. They're also available in a linen. Sold separately though and expensive! I like to change the beds all in one day also, but it's not always so easy to do when we have accidents on weeknights and I work the next day (one night a nosebleed that managed to get on every bedding surface, including the dust ruffle - poor thing fell off the bed and I think her daddy carried her all around the room in the dark before we realized). I think I'll wash the JC Penney sheets a few more times and use fabric softener to see if they'll soften up. If not, I can always buy an extra sateen set and make the ruffle myself out of a flat sheet (trying hard to avoid that since sewing doesn't come easily to me). Thank you!...See MoreAnyone else looking for crisp sheets?
Comments (110)I have had two sets of Thomas Lee 100% cotton sheets. They are...to die for. Cool, crisp and smooth. Feel like the sheets my mom line dried in the fresh air back then. Makes me want to go to bed every night. BUT...both have torn. The bottom sheet of the first set actually seemed to wear out and a large tear developed after only a couple years. I thought it must be a fluke so invested in another set. Just couldn’t (can’t ) imagine life without them. Well, the side seam of the top sheet of the second set, now a couple years old, has torn out, I can see actual tiny holes in each stitch point! At well over a hundred dollars on sale, this is ridiculous (I considered them one of my few luxuries). I will try calling the company. I am heart broken, I mean I love these sheets. So begins the search for a new brand!...See MoreWhat do I look for in a silky smooth sheet set?
Comments (8)Cotton sheets come in a couple of different weaves, percale and sateen. Percale is a standard plain weave. Sateen is woven a little differently, something like 4 over 1 under. This gives a shinier, smoother surface than percale. Another factor is the length of the cotton strands themselves. Short strands will tend to stick up a bit on the ends, and bunch up, leading to a rougher surface and possibly pilling. Extra long staple is what you want to look for - the longer strands give a smoother, slicker surface. Typically ELS cotton will come from Egypt or if American will be pima/supima cotton. Non-ELS cotton is the cursed plague by which sheets feel and look fantastically smooth and rich in the store, but feel like rough crappy sandpaper after the first wash. When looking at thread counts you also want to make sure that higher thread counts are actual single-ply. You may also want to look for mercerized cotton, which can be softer and smoother. If you do manage to find a high threadcount sheet (>600tc) which remains smooth, slick, shiny, and soft after washing, let me know. I have a couple of 800tc and 1000tc sets like that but subsequent sets of the same were terrible. That quality has become a unicorn I've been chasing for a few years....See MoreLet's talk about sheets that are cool and crisp or cool and soft
Comments (21)Rough Linen Forever! No Bamboo for us since it's rayon and a hot chemical mess. The Federal Trade Commission, the nation’s consumer protection agency, wants you to know that the soft “bamboo” fabrics on the market today are rayon. They are made using toxic chemicals in a process that releases pollutants into the air. Extracting bamboo fibers is expensive and time-consuming, and textiles made just from bamboo fiber don’t feel silky smooth. There’s also no evidence that rayon made from bamboo retains the antimicrobial properties of the bamboo plant, as some sellers and manufacturers claim. Even when bamboo is the “plant source” used to create rayon, no traits of the original plant are left in the finished product. FTC on Bamboo Fabrics...See Morechiefneil
