That's really a pretty room, and although I've painted some of my cheap doors along with the trim before, I can see why you wouldn't want to paint yours. And it looks nice. Igloochic, my problem all started with my kitchen where I had to paint the window cause it didn't go with my dark cabs. Had to do dining room window too, since it is so totally present in the kitchen. Now that I'm about to change out the floors in kitchen and dining room, it's presented problems with the rest of the house. I won't even try to go into it here, it's just a big pain in the arse. I do appreciate your opinions....thanks again everyone.

I don't think this would look funny at all, but then again, it is exactly when we did. ;-) The windows and doors are stained. The floors will have a natural finish. The baseboards and casing are painted white. I'm sorry we are still under construction, so I don't have great pictures. The doors aren't hung yet, but these might give you an idea. The ones "under construction" are our house. The finished pictures are some inspiration pics. Good luck! Our house "in progress". In this picture we combined stained stairs and windows with painted trim and window casing This isn't a great shot, but it does show the transition between the stain and paint on the windows. This is the only decent picture I have that shows a door (french in this case, but all the interior doors in the house are stained but not hung yet.) This door isn't hung yet (just resting there) but it give you an idea of the nice contrast between the doors and the trim. Inspiration pictures

Hi Lukkiirish. Painting the doors the same color as the rest of the trim has always been the way they do things in Europe. France has never seen a painted door it didn't like. On the other hand, doors stained--generally mahogany, since that was the fashionable wood at the time--to contrast with white trim became the standard in important houses in 18th Century England. And since what we call 'Colonial' is merely a simplified version of what's considered Georgian style decor in England, places like the White House have combined stained doors with painted trim for more than 200 years now. It's all good. Baseboards often match the rest of the trim, but not always. In grand houses they were often colored marble, and in less important houses, they were often finished in faux marble rather than pale paint, the better to hide the soil line from dirty mops, which is why they're still called 'mop boards' in England. The last time I was at The White House, the baseboards in the Blue Room were painted in imitation of yellow Sienna marble. In other words, when it comes to painting doors, whatever you decide do to, you'll have plenty of historic precedent behind you. Situations where it's literally impossible to make a wrong choice don't come along very often in decorating, so when it does happens, you ought to take advantage of it. Regards, Magnaverde.

agree..you need actual baseboard because what's there looks blah. but, to answer your question, paint away,,,baseboard and door trim,,,but not that gray in the pic. it's too blue. pick the warmer, darker gray in the flooring. you could do a simple flat baseboard and trim like this. better gray color. or leave it all white and paint door. or paint walls gray and do a wood baseboard. simple pine board here.
