Who taught their cabinet maker (beaded inset)

How to cut the strips and make the bead for beaded inset cabinetry?

I thought it was Springoz, but can't find the threads anywhere. I'm getting tired of searching, but OTOH, it's great to reread converations and pictures, and to see where people are now.

Anyway.

As some might remember, I'm building cabinets and am retrofitting some I'm getting at my reuse centers. I pretty much just stink with my router, so I don't want to hack anything up.

I'm looking to find the cabinet maker who did beaded inset for this person, and the person had to tell them how to do it. I'm hoping to find a cabinet maker who will just sell me the darned strips. Locally, I am obviously insane because there is no such thing. (ok)

Does anyone remember this conversation? Or have a cabinet maker recommendation who might be willing to sell these to me without the attached cabinet and face frame. [LOL] If I could afford the whole darned thing I wouldn't be fussing with this.

That would be me!!! You want me to have him call you? The cabinet "designer"s email is cvalen@eagle-ind.com. Antonio is the actual cabinetmaker, and he worked through the process.

Here is another possible option (in case that does not pan out). I bought a really cheap router table off craigslist. It is just plastic, with short, flimsy legs; I got it for a song. Even if you "stink with a router," you can probably make beaded strips on a router table, as it makes it much simpler than handling the router itself. And if you screw up, you are only out the strip, not the cabinet door!

Aokat- I may be wrong but some of the photos above look like they have a beaded detail on the door/drawer. There are also those with the beaded detail on the frame. Just to clarify we opted not to do beaded on the frame due to expense and to maximize space. With beading on the frame it requires each drawer to be framed, and due to space ours our flush. Lynn2006: I'll try to post some more photos. I posted some finished kitchen photos in Jan. I think so you can also search under my name. I didn't post to the FKB. We used Benjamin Moore White Dove in oil/satin finish I believe. The countertops and backsplash are 2cm Calacatta marble.

Fishes: Yes, we do have an eating area. It is narrow, only about 10' wide so we are placing our table with chairs there with a banquette against the wall. There is also a basment door and the door to the back staircase in that area so wall space is limited. These old houses are charming but can be complicated. I am toying with adding glass front display cabinets above the banquette so that I can get my display somewhere. I have a large collection of blue and white transferware that is displayed on shelves in our soon to be gone butler's pantry :(. With the lack of wall cabinets in the L I think having display is tough unless we put it in the sit down eating area of the kitchen. Can't wait until I can get my husband to show me how to post our layout so that people can see what I am trying to explain. I agree that your baking area more than makes up for the lack of wall cabinets. I am going to try to get out to dutchwood next week for a visit and a better idea of all the possible cost and upcharges.Have you gone there yet?

I did not get my dream cabinets. I got *the cheapest* door available from the cabinet line I wanted. Half inch overlay, five piece raised panel. RAISED PANEL! I did not want raised panel. But! I did get white painted perimeter cabs, super solid construction and the extras I wanted that will make life more functional. Cabinets started going in yesterday and I thought they looked blah. Sinks went in this evening and hardware going on cabinets. LOVE EVERYTHING! Very glad I did not *get what I wanted* because, in the end, I am very happy with my compromises. And we are still over budget. My observation is that when you are in the planning stage, it is like hot fire...like a new adolescent romance. You need what you want and you need it exactly like you want it and you need it right away. Then you get into the "relationship"...the remodel...and it is TEDIOUS and tiring and you are a stickler but you also realize the sea turtle population is greatly in danger from the oil spill and that girls are being sold into sexual slavery in Asia and small dings and scuffs are tolerable and the bigger picture lets you *be happy* with all that you have! Three thousand is a good amount to have on hand for the unexpected!

@Kelly Zamonski Oh, thank you so much. Glad I asked here! It's really down to whether we can afford Shiloh vs. Aspect, as we're having other work done at the same time. Right now, they're quoting ceiling height cabinets in painted maple in Aspen door fronts in both lines. (It's a 12' x 15', U-shaped counter with peninsula, and pantry fridge located on the opposite wall.) We're updating from vinyl sheet floors and orange oak cabinets put in when the house (suburban traditional upright & wing) was built in the early 80s, so annnyyything will be an upgrade to appearance. That's interesting about partial overlay is coming back in style because it really doesn't look bad to me. Although, I don't think we'll risk waiting for orange oak to come back 'round in the trends.

Angie, that's the thing.
I have 3 routers, one table ready.
I don't have a table -- but I'm thinking now I should start looking. I think I would be much steadier moving the wood with a stable router, rather than the other way around.
