Please show me your MODERN Dining Room lighting
Comments (14)chloe - yes! One thing to note is that the instructions say you need European size light bulbs, but you don't, just regular chandelier bulbs. I used philips LED (warm white) and they look good. This does not give off the rainbow sparkles of a crystal chandelier like you can see in beekeeperswife's beautiful chandelier. I would say the shadow patterns are a bit more like water/raindrops but not pronounced, in fact the light generally seems pretty even and the strikingness is more from looking at the reflection/refraction in the bulbs themselves. I like the warm rainbow-ey effect of crystal, so if I get a big raise some day I may go for crystal in the dining and move this to the foyer. The quality is mid, about on par for the price. I wouldn't want to look too closely at the chrome after a few years and wouldn't wash the metal parts ever - but I am lazy so chances of me washing my chandelier are slight. It was surprisingly easy to assemble and comes with a few extra bulbs (to assemble it just goes big bulb/little bulb). I would say it's easy enough that I would hang first and then add the bulbs. An electrician installed it and I wasn't home that day, so I couldn't use my usual method of counting swears-per-minute to guage installation difficulty. But no complaints. Comments (77)Lucky, are you talking about painting your kitchen walls green? This is just me, but I think green is the wrong color to use in a kitchen with dark cabs. I'm not talking about accessories in green like your linens above, because that is going to be beautiful, I'm talking walls. I know you were wanting to paint your cabinets white and dh didn't like it, but I do think a vintage green color (on the pastel side) would be great with white/cream cabinets. I have a room I'm considering painting green (the light/pastel/vintage green, for lack of an accurate color!) but the room has white beadboard so I think I could get away with it. I would do the wall behind the hutch green and see what it looks like because that would be the perfect place for it! And I'm gonna steal that hutch if you're not careful! :)...See MoreShow me your built-in dish hutch!
Comments (15)Thanks for all of the help -- while all of these are great, sweeby and ging9, your style is really what I am trying to find -- where top cabs come down to counter top. I would love to someday just reach in and get the dishes and plates I need rather than only being able to reach what is in the first shelf most of the time! DH is concerned about loss of counter space in front, but I love the idea that this configuration keeps that section of the counter "clutter free" by design. We tend to live by piles and I am trying desperately in this new design to avoid the tendency for that by having designated areas for mail, homework, etc. that does not include all of the counter space in the kitchen!...See MoreHelp me design our new open Living & Dining room with built-ins!
Comments (2)Thanks Patricia for taking the time to read my post! I agree with the built-in banquette seating. My finance is pretty convinced that it's a great idea for big family dinners (which is funny since most meals we eat out OR eat in front of the TV since we live in a condo and it's only the 3 of us). As for the pictures, I took these with a wide angle lens, which unfortunately distorts the edges of the pictures (ie like a fisheye lens, but less severe). I took them like this to fit more of the room into a single snap shot. While the drawing isn't 100% to scale, it, for the most part it shows the correct scaling of the walls, nooks and crannies. We're mostly hoping to have general furniture layout suggestions to keep the room looking not awkward, with clean sight lines from walking up the stairs, out the patio and from the kitchen (far screen left in the diagram; it's cut off, but will be a full kitchen that has a pony-wall overlooking the stairs)....See MoreRelated Professionals
