I bought an awesome bench at TJ Max about 6 months ago. It has red and cream fabric in kind of a damask pattern. I keep it buy my front door to put hats and gloves in. It is also a place to sit and put on shoes or set my purse down. It's not super deep because it has tall legs, but it could hold a couple pillows and a blanket. It think other colors are available if the store still carries the item. It was under $100.

Have you checked Overstock and Home Decorators?

We got our bench at Home Goods, large enough to sit 2 people. Its large enough to sit two people comfortably so lots of interior storage and it was reasonably priced.

Does it have to be a bench? How about a trunk?

Thanks everyone. Yes, I've checked the usual online sites, but haven't found anything, which is why I came here. Wondering if anyone has come across, or owns, a storage bench that is larger than normal.

And gracie01, a trunk would be fine. I hadn't thought of that - might be more roomy than the typical bench/ottoman.

I was going to suggest a trunk also. I use a wicker trunk for the same purpose in my family room (no pillows, just lots of blankets). Here's a very reasonable one at Target.

Well, unfortunately no luck with the Target wicker trunk. Love the style but way to small. Guess I'll continue the search.

goldgirl, we are having the same trouble. We have a very high king bed and we want a storage ottoman at the foot to hold blankets etc. Unfortunately, all the "normal" ottomans look ridiculously tiny at the foot the the bed. And the big ones cost $500! Yeck.

What about a Craigslist Lane chest? I have one from the 30s in the basement and it holds blankets and pillows. Right now, it also has a dollhouse on top for my little granddaughter, so we don't use the blankets.

I did a quick look on my local Craigslist and saw about 10 different styles - all under $150. You often see a lot of waterfall, which I don't care for, but I saw one really cute one which looked like a barn door on the front.

Pier 1 used to have some decent sized wicker chests/trunks. We used to have a couple that we used for toy storage.

Deeinohio - Thanks so much for suggesting Craigslist. I didn't even look there because I rarely find anything close by (and time is an issue). After you posted, I did a quick search and the first item that popped up was the chest below for $75. Just picked it up, and the seller couldn't have been nicer.

It's not my style, but is functional and will get the job done for the time being without spending a fortune. I'll keep looking for something that better fits our decor, but at least now I can get the bedding off the floor!

That'll look nice with a couple of pillows on it (or a long comfy pillow for a golden?) Of course, that makes it harder to use on a day-to-day basis. It still looks nice as is.
