I commented on this thread a while back when I was trying to decide between the silgranite white or a darker color. I really wanted white because I thought it'd be prettier but I was afraid of the potential staining problems. Well I went for it and got the silgranite super single sink in white from home depot online. Even though the pictures don't show it, I bought the matching grate as well. I think the grate is a good investment as it protects both the sink and your dishes if you happen to drop them. It's been about 7 months now and I'm still so happy with my choice. I haven't had any problems with staining. I am careful with it as I would be with any item that cost me $300+ but I don't feel it's extreme. I always rinse out the sink after I use it and do at least a weekly clean with a liquid soft scrub unless I've done a lot of cooking. I have a bunch of microfiber cloths I got from Amazon that I use to wipe off any water spray on the counters' edge by the sink. I am meticulous about this because I have very hard water. Overall I love this sink. It's functional and beautiful.

I'm so glad to hear back from you! Thanks for the great closeups and the information about the installation process. I, too, never cared for the way the sink was originally installed, but figured there must be a reason. After seeing the finished apron front, I guess the only reason was that the owners didn't want to cut into the window framing, so mounted the sink with the backsplash just underneath. The cabinets are also lower and less deep than those built today, but I think that was pretty common a hundred or so years ago. I do wish I could find out what year this sink was made. The bottom of the sticker was gone and it wasn't printed anywhere on the sink. If I could find that out, it would help figure out when this house was really built, as there is some discrepancy with the dates. I have changed some of the planning on our install, based on your photos... DH was going to extend the window sill by the few inches needed to get the apron to line up with the countertop just behind the curve on the side of the sink. The shelf was to go straight out from the sill, then straight down, filling in the entire area between the corbels on either side of the window. I really like how your shelf is deeper than the box and rounded on the ends. We are going with that idea now instead of a straight shelf across and straight box down! Thanks also for the paint info. I know what you mean about liking, but not loving, the paint color. That is how I've felt about my current green paint since day one, and that was a couple years ago! I like it on cloudy days but not when the sun is bright or when the lights are on in the evening. I've also put off repainting because I remember how much work it was! Now, I've resolved that I will be painting immediately after this kitchen and the remainder of the butler's pantry is completed. If only I can find that perfect green :) Terry

There was recently another thread similar to this one. You may want to look back and try to find it. In any case, I did a ton of research and ended up going with the Shaw's sink. I looked at many of the common brands and always kept going back to the classic style of the Shaw single bowl fireclay. But, the deciding factors were a few: 1) Home & Stone (recommended by other GWers) had a great price, great return policy, and great shipping options, 2) Shaw's has warranties that are much better than some of the other brands. Belle Foret was one sink style (and price) that I liked, but the company doesn't have a direct contact number and after TONS of phone calls, I came to find out that they don't warranty the sink AT ALL! I'm not spending my hard-earned money on something that isn't warrantied or doesn't come from a company w/ good (or any) customer service. 3.) My cabinet maker said he's installed many farmhouse sinks and he thinks the Shaw's are the extremely reliable, even though they have sometimes imperfect shapes. But, a good cabinet maker should be able to work with handcrafted sinks and still make it look great! So, Shaw's it was. I'm about a month away from installing and using mine, but, I love what I see in the box! HTH!
