inexpensive backsplash ideas with Basalt Slate Formica
Comments (4)Hi, Here is your Formica: Is all the nice wood staying with the open shelving? If the shelving will stay open, what will the color be where the jade/turquoise is now? Is the backsplash going to be just the area that looks the pinky-beige color now? Are you refreshing the finish on the cabinets or changing the pulls? It appears to me that you like the 1950s vibe, with the colorful pottery. Will that all be visible? I am thinking that if the open shelving and the colorful dishes stay, your backsplash will need to be more uniform to not fight with it. Not necessarily a boring backsplash, but one with either a subtle pattern or no pattern to it. And if the counters will still have lots of appliances and things out on them, you don't want something that has a pattern because the things on the counter will make the pattern all chopped up. Make sense? Give us more information on these issues and I bet you will get more input....See MoreHelp with paint colors - oak cabinets slate colored tiles (PICS)
Comments (10)Juddgirl2 - Thanks for the link! I really like the Believable Buff you used. And I will check out Camelback and Whole Wheat as well. I'm still torn between a yellow (White Raisin) and a neutral for the common areas of the house. Time to get some samples and paint some large swatches! Elaine - The pictures of your house in another post is what made me want to go with White Raisin throughout! It's beautiful, I just love that color. Its warm without being too bright of a yellow. Although I love the colors in your house I think the Bamboo Shoot is a little to green for me, I'd prefer something a little more muted for my master. BM Olive Branch was my first choice but I was trying to find a similar color in Sherwin Williams since that's what the painter uses and saw Svelte Sage... not quite the same but a nice muted sage green. And the Connected Gray was one step deeper on the same strip so I thought that would go nicely in the bathroom. Lukkiirish - Thanks for the information on Restore-a-Finish. I see they have it on amazon.com so it will be easy to find....See MoreSedona Trail with black gem lock edge or Basalt Slate
Comments (3)Can you share pictures of your cabinets and flooring with the samples. The Sedona Trail is a nice neutral - but I think it will be too neutral with the honey oak and red oak. You need a much stronger contrast between the two oaks. Do you have a good inspiration picture of the Basalt Slate? I have a similar issue in my kitchen - orangy birch cabinets and red oak flooring with counter being too close to the same color - talk about a "sea of orange". I plan to remedy that in a few years by painting my cabinets white :)...See MoreLaminate Basalt Slate/Oiled Soapstone combo?
Comments (2)I don't think that would work very well in laminate or with two colors so close together. Laminate corners are 45° instead of the 90° that is most commonly used when joining two different counter types. Also, when two different counter types are used, typically a height difference is also used to be able to transition better. And, having two colors so close together but not the same would appear to be a mistake to most, rather than a deliberate design choice. If you love the Basalt Slate, why not consider having an inlay of Corian, butcherblock, or marble in a select "baking" location away from any water source. It would be a nice accent in that it would be obviously a deliberate design choice based on functionality. Most good laminate fabricators can work with you on something like this. Also, don't forget to get quotes from many different sources for your counters including stone yards for granite. Granite is not as expensive as you think it is, and it remains a top countertop choice not just for beauty, but because it's highly functional as well....See Moreci_lantro
