Quick vote please: Drop-in sink or undermount w Carrera Marble?
Comments (4)I think you hit on what I'm afraid of - that the drop-in would look too clunky and something more sleek will fit the home better. The counter-tops I wouldn't mind, I'm tall so even with the executive height counters it would be ok. But, I just know I'd chip the sink somehow. Didn't think I would with the drop-in since they aren't as high. Guess I'd better be safe and go with the undermount. So much easier to clean the counters and such too. Comments (5)Isn't the Bakersfield sink a drop in, not an undermount? We have the Kohler Lakefield cast iron sink mounted under a chestnut counter. It is not hung from the countertop, it's sitting on the cabinet that is under the sink. Undermounts are great for wood counters. Our faucet is mounted on the chestnut and has been in for about 7 years now. The counter is finished with several coats of Waterlox. This finish has protected the countertop very well in general, but there is a small spot of rot at the base of the faucet where water sat for long periods of time. Be sure to seal the underside of your counter, and any holes you have cut into the countertop. This will prevent warping and other water related problems....See Moreleaking undermount sink (silestone countertop)
Comments (20)Well, I stand corrected on the mold issue. I just did some quick research and found the article below. Based on that info, I'd inform the installation company to bring new pieces of wood for the install. For the mold on the inside of the cabinet you'll need to find something to kill the mold. Earlier you said "I called HD; They said it is not my responsibility to get a plumber, and they would talk to the installer." If the leak wasn't caused by anything the plumber did, and it does look like it's due to little or no caulk around your sink, then I'd hold them responsible for paying the plumber. Besides that, hiring the plumber again was also due to the fact that they scratched your countertop! Did they say anything after the initial installation about the need for someone to caulk around the sink, or did they say they caulked it? It appear the reason they're not using the clips is because there nothing to clip too. There's no overhanging plywood on the front and sides of the cutout to attach the clips to. That looks like a huge cutout, but I've also made similar cutouts in cabinets that were a little small for the sink we wanted to use. BTW, my kitchen sink doesn't have clips either. It's held up by plywood and 1x4's on three sides and a narrower strip on the back edge to allow for the faucet. Before they show up for the install, make sure the cabinets are to your liking and confirm that they'll bring the new wood. Comments (2)I don't mean to hijack this thread, but... I have some very specific questions for blueberry_girl about her sink: DH and I are looking at the Verity for our remodel. Kohler shows a version that sits on TOP of the counter with a 4 inch tall apron, or a farmhouse style undercounter version that has a much taller apron, maybe 10 or 12 inches tall? I am curious about your Verity. Is it the former (4 inch tall apron) or the later (10 inch tall apron)? The Kohler catalog suggests the countertop version "MAY be installed undercounter." Both units have exactly the same basin size and depth, but we would prefer a less expansive apron. So DH is looking at getting the countertop version but installing it undercounter with a 4 inch apron reveal on the front edge. Some fancy cabinet work will be required to hide the lower portion of the basin since the apron won't do that. Just wondering if you happen to have the countertop version installed undercounter, or the "official" farmhouse style undercounter version and how it all fits together. Thanks for any information you can provide!!...See Moredenifitz
