Pre-lit Trees or Not?
Comments (17)After the of experience of buying our real tree and having them dry out so quickly, I finally gave up and bought a faux tree. It's prelit with white lights, and since we have a little granddaughter who loves "rainbow" colors, I just added colored light strands to it. It worked great, because I had a choice between it white or multicolored or I could have both at the same time if I wanted! I figure if the prelit lights stop working, I could still use the tree by just putting my own lights on it. To me, there's something special about a real tree--but the faux tree is so much easier in so many ways, no hassle of getting it home, getting it in the stand, remembering to water it, or worrying about it drying out and becoming a fire hazard. I will say that fluffing the branches is a hassle, but unless you have the space to store it without stuffing it back in the box--you gotta do it. I read a post once about a lady who took the no longer working lights off her pre-lit tree and it sounded like a very difficult, time consuming project, much as I hate to be wasteful, I'd probably have just bought a new tree or as stated above, just strung more lights on it. Yesterday, I stopped in a couple TS on my way home from helping a friend and both stores had faux trees for sale. I was impressed that at least two out of three of the trees were really nice ones and just needed a bit of fluffing--and the price was a fraction of what a new tree would cost. So if you're into recycling, saving money or both, don't forget to check those places also. Luvs...See MoreHow do you store your Christmas Tree?
Comments (2)Have you checked Kmart? Taht's where I found my big Rubbermaid tub for my tree. My tree's 3 sections, too. You ahve to squish it down, but it fits. I'm not at home, so I cna't see how long the tub is. If I had to guess offhand, it's 3.5-4 ft long. I do remember that the top is rounded, not the flat kind, and I think it's hinges/attached to the bottom. I didn't put the tree up this year, so I'm having to go on old memory - LOL! KMart doesn't have them out year round, but they have them around Christmas and into January when everyone's on the organizing resolution kick. It looks kinda like this: http://www.rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid/product/product.jhtml?prodId=HPProd150034 Now, they do have a new tree bag out that looks interesting: http://www.rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid/product/product.jhtml?prodId=HPProd100276 I'm pretty sure I saw this at Target....See MoreHow to add more flocking to a pre-lit artificial Christmas tree?
Comments (3)You can get a paste-like flocking at a craft store like Joanne, and I think there's a spray, too. I've used the paste on the tips of the branches of small green trees to simulate snow and found that it doesn't go far but it's easy to apply and dries reasonably quickly. The paste I've used is gloppy. It wouldn't be possible to neatly coat each needle....See MoreWhat's your christmas tree like this year? Creative or not??
Comments (21)I used to mix things up when the kids were home. I had a mishmash of their 'special' ornaments and whatever color scheme I chose for that year. The last two years I've put up a 6 foot artificial tree in the family room and decorated it with stuffed santas, snowmen & reindeer. And a lot of primitives decorations. I usually had a tree in the living room in the bay window, but this year I redecorated that room, so on tree can fit in there. Instead I put up a 2 foot lit artificial tree on the sideboard. I found some wired ribbon in the colors of my LR, and also some unbreakable balls in copper color. I happened on some glass icicles in aqua, and some aqua & copper glass onion bulbs, so I decorated the mini tree with all those. I had to flick the cat several times each time he tried to bat one of the balls off the tree, but he finally got the hint. I also had to wire the stuffed santas to the other tree because the cats knocked them down and the dogs thought they were getting new toys. Honestly, it's worst than when the kids were little!...See Morework_in_progress_08
