Best Pre-Lit Tree?
Comments (2)Well, we went with the Hammacher Schlemer five-minute tree which was hugely expensive and, guess what, it arrived with one section of lights non-working. The tree was replaced under their lifetime warranty so, I guess, they did step-up. But another section on the replacement tree failed midway through the holiday season so, after Christmas, we sent the whole thing back. For $1,300 I'm not gonna be messing with that nonsense year in, year out. Took a while, but I got a full refund, including shipping. Looks like I'm also giving up on pre-lit trees....See MoreMy vent about my pre-lit Christnas tree
Comments (22)LMBO....I'm sorry for chuckling, but this was the FIRST thing that I thought of when the pre-lit trees started. Every time anyone has mentioned them IRL or posted about getting one, I have always said that I didn't think it would be that much more convenient because those lights couldn't be any better than the ones you put on your tree yourself and one day they weren't going to light and you would have a problem. I'm just surprised that it took this long to see a post like this! I'll stick to the old way things work. That way if the wiring goes bad and it's not just a bulb problem, I can just go buy new lights and be done with it ;) I have fixed up a lot of others broken light strands and when a light strand stops working, it's because there are at least 2 lights that are out in each section. Most light strands are in two sections and so if the whole thing is out, there at least 2 lights blown on each half or it could be the fuse (found in the plug). Most of the problems around here tend to be a broken bulb, like the garland I put around the door will have the tip busted off the light so depending on if something is bumping the now exposed wiring, the lights will flicker on and off. Check for those first and then black bulbs but then sometimes they're blown and look perfectly fine. I have always wanted to get a light tester and I should because I would rather fix the strand I have then buy another one if it's only a bulb or two. Also, each light company makes their own adapter and socket for the bulbs, so it's usually easier to just take the bulb out and put the new one back in the old "adapter" than because most likely that light bulb you have won't just fit back in the old strand! I have a little tin that I throw all of the "extras" in just in case something goes wrong each year! Good luck!...See MoreMerry Christmas to me.....a bargain score!
Comments (50)I am so happy for you! The tree is really beautiful . . . and so tall! It was one of those "meant to be" moments, I think. Don't forget to let us see it all decorated, will you? We'll all celebrate it together one more time. My heart goes out to your DH. Both my husband & I have medical field backgrounds and I know how painful and dibilitating, bouts of kidney stones can be . . . and how insurance companies can quickly make your lives miserable, jumping through their hoops. I'll be keeping you both in my prayers that his recent surgery will do the trick and he'll be back to his old self soon. Wishing you a lovely, happy, healthy Christmas Season! Comments (59)This is the last year for our 8' pre-lit tree. We got it probably 10 years ago at Lowe's. I loved it because it had 1,100 white lights that stay on, don't blink. It was a beautiful tree, but after all those years of being squished down into the box, it is looking worn and shedding needles like crazy. We had the top section of lights go out after the first year but it was still under warranty and they sent us a whole new top section. Until this year, we had no other light issues. When hubs set it up this year, three sections of the four had 2-3 branches that would not light. We used strands of 50, which is about what were out, for 2 of the 3 sections. The last section went out after I had put on the ornaments and it was only 2 branches, go figure. Since it was in the back of the tree, I didn't bother replacing the strand. I don't know why 2-3 branches would go out but anyway, its going out on the curb this weekend. Usually someone comes along and takes things like that so maybe they will fix it. We haven't been able to find another one with that many lights on it. Now the 8' ones have alot fewer lights, maybe LEDs but still not enough for me. We live in hot Florida, so real trees don't last until Christmas. Most places get shipments from just before Thanksgiving until the first weekend in Dec. After that its slim pickings. We haven't had but 2 days out of the 80's the entire month. Too hot for a real tree....See More- 14 years ago
