one large sink vs 1 3/4

I'm pretty sure I'm going with the 1 3/4 bowl sink (Silgranite cafe brown)because I like to be able to scrub or soak one large tray or cookie sheet while scraping plates or pouring things into the disposal in the small bowl. This is what I have now. Last night my husband and son said they would prefer one large basin. I think that would block the drain, no matter where it's placed. Anyone want to offer me any reasoning on either side of the coin? Thank you!

This topic of single vs. double bowl has been discussed A LOT on this forum. Do a search for threads, and you'll be reading for quite some time. I've linked one below. There's no right or wrong answer, it's just a matter of personal cooking style. I myself have a large rectangular single bowl, and wouldn't do anything else, but I know there are plenty of people who wouldn't have anything but a double-bowl.

As to the drain, just make sure to get a sink with an "offset drain", which comes in both single and double bowl styles. An offset drain is set to the back or to the rear corner (rather than the center), so that you can set pans down without covering the drain. It also gives you more room under the sink for storage, especially if you have a disposal. If the drain is offset, you won't have the plumbing and disposal right in the middle of your base cabinet interfering with your storage.

One more thing to add to my previous message: What size is your sink base cabinet? If small, then I recommend you go with a large single bowl sink.

Newport Brass makes several models of wall mount tub fillers. This one is 8GPM, which is plenty, as far as I am concerned: Tub Filler I have a similar Newport Brass wall mount that puts out less volume, but is still adequate. Just be aware that, if the spout does not extend far enough into the tub that the water stream hits the bottom, you may get splashback onto the nearby bathroom wall with a spout that is only far enough over the tub edge that the stream hits the upper area of the inner wall of the tub. This is especially true for a high volume valve.

Although my kitchen is not yet completely finished......LOVE MY NEW KRAUS large single bowl. (kitchen is creamy white cabs with marble) I've had single years before and a double bowl just prior. Of course pros and cons to both. If you're in between the two I'd say go for 'the look' you are trying to obtain. To me..Single is simple, traditional and classic and seems more 'recently updated' (goes with the marble). Double is more recent, 80's -90's practical yet not as refined. Then again, maybe I'm just partial to the 'new' single bowl since I had to live with my last kitchen which was in need of a remodel way too long....It was a double bowl with light blue (yes, light powder blue) laminate countertops-yuck! What look are you going for? Do what makes you happy!

I'm not a silgranite owner, just a person who has had a single bowl, double bowl AND a triple bowl sink and my preference is for a triple bowl. On GW, single bowl seems to reign supreme. In real life though, I've never met a person who preferred a single bowl to a double (or more) I think a lot of it comes down to personal dishwashing habits. Do you wash a lot of dishes by hand or are you a "throw everything in the dishwasher" type? Do you wipe down your counters and sink every night or are you the type that goes to bed with dirty dishes sitting in the sink? IMHO, I've noticed a commonality among those who strongly prefer a single sink and it is that 1. They seem to do more hand washing (which actually doesn't make sense to me at all) and 2. they clean their counters and sinks before going to bed. For me, as an "everything goes in the dishwasher" type and I regularly go to bed with dirty dishes in the sink, I prefer a partition (or two) so that I have an area to place the dishes waiting for the dishwasher and I still have an area to scrub/prep/rinse/wash hands etc. To me there is no "right" answer, it is entirely subjective and based on your own personal habits.

Sorry. I did a search for single vs. 1 3/4 bowl sinks and came up with nothing. I guess I should have done the search as you suggested. My base is 36" so I have room for a large one. I'll keep reading. Thank you!

This is one of those subjects that has been discussed long and hotly in this forum. Do a search and stand back. That said. Is this your only sink (I gather it is)? How big a space do you have to fit a sink? How do you cook and clean up? Do you do both at the same time? How much do the aforesaid husband and son participate in the cooking and cleaning up? And how often do they nudge in front of you to use the sink while you're using it? I've had a single large, a 60/40, a 50/50, and recently put in a 70/30 with a disposer in the small shallower, side. This last, with space for a 30" sink (SS) and no second sink, works best for me. I do think having two drains makes a huge difference. BTW the 50/50 in a 30" sink was a disaster and I wouldn't split a 24" sink.

I just bought the blanco performa in cafe brown, the single prep in brown and a large super single/white for the laundry room. I will let you know. I do like the fact that the single large one is only 9.5 deep versus the 10 onch. I worry with the additonal granite inch it will be too deep but will make do!
