Help me chose a finish for new bathroom fixtures.

I am replacing all the fixtures in my master bath. What finish will be in style for a while antique bronze finish, chrome, polished nickel, or satin nickel? TIA.

Never buy what's in style. Buy what you like and what you think would look good in there. :)

Depends on the decor of the bathroom. If it's more formal looking then the antique brass is the answer and if it's more casual then I prefer polished nickel.

I think it's tough picking out bathroom fixtures. The problem is that there are so many brands and finishes to choose from that it's overwhelming. I ran into this problem when trying to pick a faucet for the kitchen! I finally bought a Kohler Vinnata and I'm very happy with it and I bought it online after seeing it in person in a local plumbing store. Before I knew about this forum, I bought a whole bunch of Price Pfister components in oil-rubbed bronze starting with a beautiful Asian inspired bamboo-looking single spout faucet and continuing on with the towel rack, hand-held shower, tub spout, shower head & components, toilet paper holder, etc. I went for looks and now, I've changed my mind and I want a classical bathroom with chrome fixtures, so I'm out all of that money. ~I have heard that Price Pfister is not a good product. Most likely it doesn't have the ceramic valves, but instead uses plastic parts. I'm not sure how important this is since the fixtures in the shower are usually behind tile or some other material. ~I have heard complaints about Grohe using plastic parts. Some plumbers have a bias against Moen. ~I have looked at Consumer Reports and they recommend Moen shower heads. It's a tough call, but I do think seeing the fixtures in person and going to a plumbing store definitely saves time in the long run. And, then there's the budget. Sorry, I'm not much help as I find the subject matter confusing, too! Maybe someone out there can make some sense out of all the conflicting opinions/facts.

Just out of curiosity, is this tub new? I love the old style of it. You did a nice job picking appropriate fixtures in keeping with the age. Also, is that wide windowsill wood? I can see a beautiful piece of marble there, or marble-like laminate. Think old buildings with marble windowsills. As for a place for shampoos etc, could you just put them on the bathtub side ledge? If you do the u-shaped shower curtain rod, you should run the subway tile all the way to the ceiling. You'd be surprised at how high water can splash. Don't ask me how I know-from-my-very-tall-son!

Hi nicole, I used Lowe's software here, it just seems to do virtual colors better. 99% of the time I jot the paint colors in the photo name and this time I didn't do it. (They typically are not accurate to real life, best to find a color that works in virtual then find a real life swatch in that family and test it ;) I have PPG software and somewhere I have a PPG Fan deck (probably buried in my car somewhere, I've been working on a rental) and can verify for sure PPG software is not close to real life. This is pretty dark but I did my (small) upstairs bath in PPG Heliotrope four years ago. It's a smoky mid-level purple. Probably much darker than you want? I love your chandelier! Not sure about the silver trim for the mirror -- it's very pretty but I'm not clear how you want to use it. I painted my own (much smaller) bathroom a similar color and found it looked a big flat until I added some towels and other accessories in a vibrant bright pink. Good luck!

All of the above are classics, imo; chrome would be my choice, it brings brightness and has been around forever.

In a bath that is used daily such as a master bath I would chose a metal that will be easy to keep "pretty" and not have to worry about "spots". Sorry mitch but, polished chrome is the worst offender for spots. I think brushed nickle is one that will be timeless yet not be a pain to keep looking nice. I think the style of the room and the other colors in the room would help to make a decision in regard to faucet color and style. What is the color and style of the room?

I think also you should do what you love and what works best with your practicular bathroom.

Some trends come and go so fast it is hard to keep up but it ultimately always just comes down to what attracts you.

I presonally love brushed nickel also.

I agree to go with what you like. I will say, though, that chrome is the most timeless to me. That being said, I think you should do what appeals to you.

What are the cabinets, tile, etc.? My master bath has dark cherry (cognac) cabinets, marble floors and counters, white fixtures and and the walls are a pinky beige (picks up on a tone in the cherry). The hardware is all polished chrome. Use Gel Gloss, it's easy to keep it spot free. Chrome made it fresh. The same bathroom with brass (which I have in most of my house) would have pushed it into gaudy. I'm not a fan of brushed nickel. It just seems industrial to me. It works in more modern/transitional, homes, but mine is more traditional.

Chrome is always in "style" if you are looking for style and it is easy to keep clean and always looks good. If you want something that always looks clean and easy to clean and keep looking good, chrome.

When we were doing our revamp for all the bathrooms, the lady who had the most to gain by selling some of the other metals told me quite honestly that she opted for chrome in her house and after working with and having many different metals in various homes, when she built her "permanent" home, she put chrome throughout.
