just got back from looking in my garage...I thought you had my light in your house, but nope, it's still sitting there waiting to go to a good home, or even a bad one, I really don't care where it goes. I just replaced ours last week!

I like the one you picked from pottery barn. Have you looked at Overstock too? Sometimes they have knock-offs of the PB ones. Plus there is a 10% coupon floating around on this forum.

i love the pb chandy...tho think it might look too small in the foyer. even tho those builder foyer lights are really small and you've lived with it for years, you might find that something with a bit more heft (and light) looks best. would probably eliminate the shades in the foyer for more light and to appreciate it's height.

Beekeeperswife, I know what you mean about some one taking the current chandelier away. I have wanted to remove it for so long just never got around to it. I tried looking at overstock but had no luck so far. I will look again before I order. Thanks for inseting the picture for me. How do you do that?

Busybee3, The entery way is very small 3.5'*4.5' so feel anything wide will not look good. But it could be just that we are used to the current one.

I like the fixture but it looks a bit too "eating area" for an entry hall, in my opinion. I would look for something with a more classic jar, bowl, or lantern shape.

Just realized the one from ballards picture did not post right so here I go again. But the one from ballards I feel is more like dinning area especiallyafter seeing Palimpsest response about the PB one.

Just saw this on Overstock. What do you think.

It looks cheap to me. The "iron tubing" seems a tad too thin, the shade a tad too bright and the crystals a bit minimal.
The chain is too small for me too.
I'm sorry for such a harsh review but I would keep looking.

Well clearly I am not bumbleez, but I wanted to say I like them all- particularly the overstock one. I know I know this is what makes the world go round I guess. But I think it's nice and fresh/new/understated but cool looking.

I REALLY LIKE IT FOR THAT AREA. THE COLOR. THE SIZE, THE STYLE IS VERY RICH LOOKING. GET IT ,GET IT!

The overstock one. I like the first one a lot ...you can see the quality differences: The tubing (or iron) is tapered on the ends and has a true wrought iron look in the first one. The second one, it's just cut off. The chain is thicker and a better proportion in the first one.

No need for anyone to get defensive, I think the op wants honest answers and while she may certainly disagree with me, I gave my uncoated opinion.

The first one is not the style I would choose for a foyer, however. And the second one, style wise is fine, but doesn't appear well made at all.

I like all the ones shown as they each have some character to them. I do like how funky the Overstock one is. It would not work for everyone, but I like it.

I am still leaning toward the PB One as it was my first choice.

I also would suggest a more lantern-type shape for the entry, and agree that the two you're considering (PB and Ballards) look very breakfast room-ish ---although very lovely.

These are some great choices! I changed my foyer and hall fixtures last year and used an idea I learned over in the kitchen forum: to get a plastic bag and fill it with crumpled up paper to get the approx height and width of the fixture you are thinking about and hang it where it is going to go (at the right height) for several days to see how it works. Scale is hard for me to judge -- esp for hanging lights when it is not over a defined space like a DR table - and this really helped.

PS I am nuts for lanterns so my vote would go there. :)

Kswl, I like the first one you gave but it is more expensive than I wanted to spend and I amm not 100% sure that is the one I want. But I will look other places to see if I see something better.

Which one do you like. It is hard for me to judge the quality of a product online so I tend to stick to the more popular websites. So not sure how these are. These lights are rom lighting universe. Any one use them?

I like them in the order you have them listed. The first one references a traditional lantern shape, and the second also references a traditional shape: it is a pagoda form that was around way back in the federal period, and then was popular again in the mid 20th century. Since you seem to like curvy shapes, maybe this is the right one. The third one is too similar in shape to the one it is replacing, in my opinion.

I too really like them in the order you have shown and for same reasons as Palimpsest. The first one is really eyecatching. You can really have fun decorating around that.

Though in general I have been drawn to the ones that are curvy in this particular style I prefer 1.

i personally prefer the original one(without the shades!)... i don't think it looks too much like a dining light without the shades...the ht is almost 2x's the width.

Busybee3, I too lovet the PB one the best but the more I look at it I like the 1) one in the lantern style also.

One thing I am considering is may be get the PB one and try it if it does not work in entry way I need a light fixture for my dinning also I can use it there? the only concern with doing that is the dinning only is 8 ft celing and this may be a bit too tall for that area?

I need to make this decsion fast we will be having my brothers family visting the week of christmas and new year and also hosting christamas party at out house so need to decide soon.

Any more opnions on the PB one VS the first lantern ? Thanks

I love the Pottery Barn one without the shades and the quality will be fine. I like it better than the lantern styles. I'm drawn to curves too.. furniture in particular.

We will try and if it does not work I will use in the dinning area. Will post pictures when we install it.
