I have read on this forum that the mirror should be hung like you would hang a picture, so that when you look at it, it is centered at eye level. So I guess in other words wherever you have it hung, when you look into it, are YOU in the middle of the mirror? If so then it's probably hung correctly. But maybe someone who is more of an "expert" can give you the correct advice, in case what I've just said is completely wrong :)

Instead of wrapping the cord in tape I suggest you get some craft paint the color of your walls and paint the cord.

As for the mirror, it might be slightly low, maybe just a few inches. It's not bad. Do you have a picture taken further back?

Nope, I took that picture from the sofa across the room. If you think it's not bad, I'll live with it and see how I feel after the holidays. (I can tell you right now how I'll feel is too tired to move the mirror.) :-)

Judging by where the mirror is in relation to the chair height, I think it is probably too low.

As for the cord, is there more of it that would allow you to run it down one of the spaces between the boards in the wall, and then across the floor at the bottom, rather than angled across the wall?

Or, would it be possible to move the thermostat so that it is hung directly above where the cord comes out of the floor, rather than so far to the right?

I would check to see if the cord couldn't be replaced with brown cord by either yourself or an electrician. You could go to the local home center and see.

Here's another picture of the mirror. After it was taken, I painted the cord dark brown, and it has virtually disappeared! Really, I have trouble finding from across the room.

I'll put the Christmas tree in front of the mirror and decide after the holidays if I want to raise it up a bit. Thanks for everyone's input!

It does read a bit low to me. Maybe raised to the middle of the top shelf would be about right, but might feel high then, with nothing below. I wonder if you could combine it with something else or pictures.

I think the problem with the mirror is that it's not exactly the right shape and size for that space; also, the color of the frame clashes a bit with the wall but also blends in so it's hard to see the details. Usually you would have a mirror like that above another piece of furniture, such as a dresser or table.

A longer, full-length mirror or one of those large "leaning" mirrors would look better on that wall, or else the current mirror with a small table beneath it, depending on what else is on that wall already and what function you want the mirror to serve.

Something else to think about: the "use what you have" decorator (Lauri Ward?) cautions against having a "roller coaster" -- things hung at different heights around a room. That is, she says the tops of similar objects, such as artwork, should all be aligned within a room.

SH, where do you envision the pictures? I have plenty of them . . . I had a photography exhibit this year and didn't sell them all by a long shot. :-)

True, how the frame color just kind of blends into the wall. Maybe not so much irl, or maybe not an issue at all.
