White cabinets & formica counters?
Comments (18)Because I work for a laminate fabricator I need to tell you a few things. #1..The cove area in a laminate back splash is important. It keep water from getting down between the countertop, wall and base cabinet. Yes you can tile down to the countertop if you choose to, but always keep in mind that there will be caulking between the surface of the countertop and tile. Caulking discolors, hold dirt, and can crack over time. You can always tile above the laminate back splash. Now, from designer's view....I like the tile look down to the countertop surface itself. #2 Apron Under-mount sinks do not work in laminate countertops. You can select a topmount apron sink, but there really isn't a company that makes an apron under-mount sink for laminate. #3) Karran under-mount sinks are specifically design to mount into laminate countertops. They are amazing!! They can come in the acrylic version to mount into laminate. Or if you prefer they have the Edge Series to mount into laminate tops too. Below is the Karran sink link, however they are redoing the stainless steel line, and the stainless steel sink won't be available until late March or April 2013 Here is a link that might be useful: Karran Sinks...See MoreWilsonart HD Salentina Nero vs. Formica Basalt Slate?
Comments (4)I'm also looking for a stone look on a laminate budget. I don't have any experience with Wilsonart, but just wanted to share what our contractor told us. He isn't a fan of HD laminate because he has received some complaints about them, but he also says there's plenty of folks who haven't had any issues. As far as Formica goes, he says anything with a finish code of 56 or 58 (matte) is going to be more durable than something with a code of a 42 or 46 (HD and more shiny). I read the thread about the Formica basalt slate and I see that it's only available in a crystal finish which is a code 42. This is probably the type of thing my contractor was telling me about, so I decided to play it safe and go with a matte laminate, code 58. Hope that helps!...See MoreBudget Kitchen Facelift w/ Formica Butterum Granite
Comments (27)A few more pics as things get finalized... The countertop arrives! My husband Russell cutting the sink opening. Notice how he has the blood pressure, heartburn, and arthritis medicine handy. LOL Here is a shot of the seamless corner and beveled edge. Close-up of Butterum Granite (Formica) Another one The breakfast room side of the kitchen getting into shape. It is separated by a half wall on the left where the refrigerator is in the kitchen. It also shares one long common wall (with arch openings) with the kitchen and our den which I am also painting in "Praline". Here I got a new curtain with button accents $24 on clearance at JC Penney, oil rubbed bronze curtain pole $18, and Russell spray painted our old light fixture to match. Another shot Thanks everybody for your comments!...See MoreRemolding wood & Formica Dresser... Please Help
