I guess it depends on how you will use the room and where your furniture will be placed.

BTW, I have cans in my T&G oak cathedral, and it looks great.

Personally, I would NOT do "multi-light wall sconces over each window ".

I have just built a similar room. We sheetrocked the ceiling. I put cans on each side and will hang a ceiling fan/light from the center beam. In the photo, the cans are sticking out because I haven't painted yet. They give good light, plus I have two skylights.

Could you put in the can lights and have the trim faux painted to match the wood? Or maybe get trim that looks like ORB, which would be less noticeable? I'm sorry but "multi-light wall sconces," sound like bathroom lights to me.

As western_pa_luann said, it really depends on how you'll be using the room and the furniture layout. (Personally, I loathe downlight cans. I think the light they put out is unflattering and harsh, but they are quick, cheap and easy.)

Luann: Could you post a photo or two of your ceiling?

I haven't thought through exact furniture placement, but it'll be couches and chairs, both to gaze out the windows at the lake, and to curl up with a book. Supplemental floor and table lamps are certainly an option, but I'd like enough hard-wired light to make it comfortably bright without the supplementals to just hang out.

Any additional options other than cans or "bath bars?: :-)

Weedy, Your room is fabulous with the windows and the great views. It also looks quite large. Your furniture might be away from the walls. If so, make sure you have some floor outlets. Unfortunately that will require you to think about furniture placement now. DH and I have owned two houses where the furniture worked best in the center of the room and neither house had floor outlets.

The first one already had porcelain tile on the floor throughout the main living area. We didn't want to break it up putting in a floor outlet so we had a really funky furniture arrangement with the sofa angled out from the wall to cover a piece of that humpy rubber stuff with the wire in it running from the table lamp to the wall outlet. Because the fireplace was also on an angle, it almost looked like we were echoing the angle of the fireplace.

When we replaced the carpet in the second house with porcelain tile, we had a floor outlet installed. Because of the expense of sawing a trough in the slab, we only had one installed, instead of the 2 I really needed.

How about three pendant lights in a row?

I agree with yayagal. Some spectacular pendants along with floor/table lamps will be perfect for this room.

No, pendant lights hang from the ceiling, generally in the center of the room or dividing the room into equal sections.

So let me rephrase my question: where would you put the pendants? In a row across the center of the ceiling? We were thinking of a ceiling fan smack dab in the middle of the peak....

Well, if I'm reading your plans correctly, the roof/ceiling peak is 14' - 3 7/8" and the width of the room is 19' - 3 1/8", is this correct? If this is the case, then yes, hang them from right from the peak.

I don't think a single ceiling fan is going to do a whole lot for you visually - are you totally in love with having one?

The fan is more for air circulation than aesthetics. Though we'll pick a nice-looking one, of course. :-)

Would 3 pendants in the middle of a 20-foot room be sufficient light? We've got that many over our 9-foot kitchen peninsula. What about 6 total, in 2 lines, each halfway between the peak and sides of the room? Is that too busy?
