I had a box spring cover made, it's made like a fitted sheet except the part that you see is gathered fabric, double gathered, it covers the box spring nicely in a decorative way; I personally like the blank space under the bed, my bed is designed to be done that way, there's a decorative cross bar on the bottom.

Half of our beds have bedskirts. The ones that don't are a sleigh bed and a faux bamboo bed. For one, I had one skirt made locally. The labor was not expensive (100 for queen including the material to cover boxspring) but I did select an expensive, special order silk fabric.

I have seen matlassee boxspring covers online. Try searching for those. You could also buy a quilt or coverlet and use, but it might not stay in place as well.

We have windows on either side of our bed that go to the floor. I have my grandmother's pie crust table on my side. DH has a small four drawer chest. imo, it doesn't matter if part of the window is covered. The side table needs to be the right height for the bed and if it happens to cover some of the window, so be it.

We have a bed skirt (that I made to reach the floor.)

I have an antique Duncan Phyfe table on my side of the bed, and DH has an old file cabinet that my grandfather made.

Lamps need to be larger, and I am thinking of adding drapes to soften the look. Also, I now have a new comforter, but already had this photo with the windows showing.

I have a 4poster bed like NHB. What a beautiful cabinet your Grandfather made - that is so special.
I have chest on each side. They don't match. Bookshelves would work, too. And yes, bedskirts to touch the floor have to be custom made - mine measure 23". Currently, I don't have one & like the open look but miss the additional storage but I took a bedskirt that was too short & tucked it around the boxsprings.

When I was buying a new mattress, I chose a low-profile box spring so that a regular bedskirt would fit, but the night stand isn't as high as the top of the new mattress, so I'm planning to add feet to it. Actually, it has feet but they're inconspicuous and "lifts" could be added without changing the look very much.

Most new beds are requiring taller night stands, but that opens up other possibilities: tables of all kinds, small chests, bookshelves - furniture not intended for bedside use, as long as it's the right size.

I use a bed skirt, but don't have a bed frame, at my old house we used a bed frame and box spring covers in a navy color as that worked with my decor. I think a nice tailored one works really well with a bedframe like newhomebuilder has.

I know several companies now make different heights on the bedskirts too, since taller is becoming more popular.

I don't think having the night stands covering part of the window is a big deal personally.

okmoreh - I never thought to tuck a too short bed-skirt into the mattress. My new bedding (not shown) came with a bed-skirt that I really liked, but was too short. I am getting tired of the old skirt, so may just change over next spring and have the bed open underneath. I too like that look. I don't have to worry about storage either. The dog does like to hide underneath, though. :)

All the newest bedding set's come with bed skirts?? just re-did entire guest suite and bed skirt matches bedding, and it is long to the floor as is MB and my bed is high so not sure what the problem is?

I also have a very high four-poster bed. My solution was to purchase valances in a fabric that complimented the bedding and velcro to the wooden part underneath. I tried using thumb tacks, but the bed is cherry and very hard wood, so made it impossible to push them in. I've also purchased fabric, making box pleats at the corners.

I recently put a bedskirt on a daybead and tied it to the springs. You could probably velcro it to the frame also, but I was out of velcro! LOL

patycakes, when you did that how did you then deal with your box spring?... Your solution is one I have been toying with.. I saw a great bedskirt made from quitled fabric.. very lush but not to fluffy.. If I can find a King sized quilt I like I think I can do it. I need to lay out the dimersions and see what the least amount of fabric I need is.

Susieq.. any skirts that come ready made with anything I have seen are at least 4-6 inches to short for my bed.

Since the frame is completely wood, I had no problem with the box spring. Just velcroed on the underside/backside of the wood.

The daybed doesn't have a box spring, so that was a piece of cake. ;o)
