Awesome! I think I saw the earlier thread, but this helps me put it into perspective. I'm moving my fridge to the fringe of the kitchen when we remodel and i wondered if that would give me enough counter space to have more than one person in the kitchen. Your pics really help me see that it can work! :)

With all the constant discussion about adequate clearances and room for more than one person to work without getting the cooties, or whatever, a picture like this brings some good of perspective. And maybe even a suggestion that sharing cooties can be fun. :) Do you have one with the work table?

rosie you are a hoot ! cooties indeed. You are right in that many folks want 48" or greater clearances and huge amounts of spaces. It is fine if you have it but if you don't then the plan has to be workable within the footprint you can afford or are constrained by.

Lissa I have my fridge/freezer TWINS at the fringe also. I like them completely out of the uproar of the kitchen proper. The old work triangle is getting obsolete as we have multiple cooks in families. Not being able to walk 20 steps to something is kind of old fashioned I would rather walk and get all the things I need and then have my station ready to go. But then that is me. Making the kitchen work for each person is the most important thing :)

Caroline -- these are very useful. Couple of questions (as I ooh and ahh over your gorgeous house once again): where are your ovens in relation to sink and cooktop? Do you have more than one sink in the kitchen or just the fabulous soapstone trough?

Any chance you have a layout handy with room dimensions (I ask realizing that you finished your project many moons ago and have long moved on to the fun part)...

Hey sara ! Layout ??? She asks in awe of those who had such . We never had one LOL. DH and I drew some stuff on graph paper and then the GC said "OK" and it pretty much turned out OK. But for you I went and got my trusty tape measure and here are the dimensions and the final kitchen pics so it makes sense. You are so sweet to like my space !!

The kitchen is 15ft( L to R) x16 ft when facing fireplace wall:

The marble counter for the coffee area to the left of the fireplace is 4ft long x 2ft deep. Ovens are standard 30" Miele.

As I stated above, the cooktop run and sink area are 75" each. The only sink in the kitchen is the antique soapstone. It is 30" wide by 24" deep. DW is standard Bosch width.

This cabinet run is 30" deep and 8ft long.

The alcove where the Twins are is 7ft wide ( way Twins run) x 10 ft deep (to our Master BR foyer doors).

these are the MBR doors on L of the Twins alcove:

The island is 38" from cooktop
36" from DW
51" from the fireplace
40" from the long cab run.
It is a 3ftx4ft Tabco work table.

We could have had lots more countertop space and cabs etc. but most of my cabs are empty LOL I don't like lots of "stuff" and also I would have had to give up the fireplace and that was not gonna happen. The "big sink" in the sunroom is the all purpose sink. I have never cooked in a way that needed more than one sink. Don't expect to change at this late date ! :) Keep me posted on your wonderful kitchen and ask anything you like of me. c

Trailrunner, I'm moving my fridge because my entire counterspace in my kitchen is 9 feet total right now. Now you're making me think about using the dining room wall for the fridge...hmmm.

Moving the fridge where I currently plan to move it gives me 3 more feet of counter space, and a 4 foot span, which I desperately need. I bake bread, make bagels, etc. and my current 9 feet of counter space is cut up into tiny little chunks with no real area to set things out. I don't even have room to put an island in like your purty one. :(

I keep wishing for more space, so now I'm working on making it. I'm not really sitting around bemoaning my lack of space daily, but I sure can't wait until I can start on my new kitchen! :)

lissa have you posted a pic of the space and shown the talented planners on this site what you want? If it is possible to get it out of the main area and still have it adjacent and not look "funny" then I sure would go for it. As I said we used a lot of graph paper :) We had to really think outside the box. The area where the Miele ovens are was open to our bedroom and was a closet. We brought the space through to match the left side of the fireplace where the coffee bar is now. It was a great idea that DH had when he said "what if?" so discount any idea as too weird since it might make all the difference.

I just got the island a few months ago so really our only long counter space was the 8ft run. I bake all the time too and was able to manage OK since it was one long run. Why don't you post pics either for the 1st time or again and see what happens? I would love to see where the dining room wall might help you . c

Caroline -- this fantastic information. Thanks for doing that for me! Our kitchen is a very similar size (14'X16'), so this is helpful. Love your soapstone sinks. Ooooh. Aaah. :) If only something like that would look "at home" in a 1964 So Cal Brady Bunch house.

You are most welcome sara ! I think that you can make certain details work for you in lots of different settings. There are folks on here who have blended so many interesting characteristics in their remodels, some native to their home and some not.

I have so many different touches from Native American to Persian to Victorian and then Pottery Barn but they all seem to work since I like a certain color scheme and that ties it together.

I got all the salvage from Nor'east Architectural salvage in NH. Maybe you can look at their site and get some ideas. I think the old sinks look good anywhere :)

thank you for the compliments ! the table is a work table from Tabco. It is 4ft x3ft. They have lots of different sizes. They can also add a shelf and a drawer like I did. I have an extra drawer so if your DS wants the drawer let me know. They are fantastic quality and there speed of shipping and customer service were amazing. The top is maple and is 2" thick. I was really pleased at the inexpensive price...less than every other place I checked and it was FREE shipping too. I hope he likes it. Again let me know if he wants the drawer. Caroline
