Do any of you keep your sheers up through the winter months?

This Spring I ordered sheers for my bedroom from Country Curtains and had to special order them because I needed a particular length. Now that it's getting colder, I'm wondering how many of you use your sheers year round? I know several people hang heavier drapes during the Winter months? Would like to hear from you.

I have sheer on all my master BR windows along with a shade pulled half way down. I do not have any other kind of curtain on the windows. The sheers are up all year round.

Give them light. Withhold water for up to 10 weeks. I wouldn't wait for a sign they're going to bloom. I have about three dozen, and they are several different kinds. Some bloom reliably in February and March. Many don't bloom until I put them outside. Since I don't really have a cold place, most of mine actually bloom in June after about two months living outdoors. I think the cold nights they get at that time help. Once they are about five years old, almost all of them have bloomed every year regardless of how I care for them in winter. One thing I think does help is to feed them regularly in spring and summer. I use a 3-1-2 NPK formula with all minors.

We found a talented interior designer who helped us make many design decisions from the planning stage to now. The architect was more the one we went to for construction issues or clarification. So, for us the interior designer together with GW is how we have gotten half way through our build and made the decisions thus far. It has been stressful and I have not enjoyed it. However, know I will love having a custom built home at the end that I could never have gotten if we had purchased a resale house. That last idea is what has helped us through, and also knowing that once some decisions were made, they were behind us. Don't forget to troll around on Houzz for inspiration pictures. Sometimes you can think you want something, and then we you see examples of your vision you change your mind and go another direction. Good luck, Carol

Thank you, my friends for your nice comments. Dain, yes, they are from Rinoa. (Rick turned me on to Rinoa..ha ha!) Karen, so true here as well I'm finding out; next rain season I will erect a white canopy for my Adeniums. They don't like the sweltering heat of that time either: brilliant all day sun one day, rains for a couple days, and so forth. I lost a few adeniums two months ago due to rot. Rick, thanks for your advice, they are always welcome.

I think I'm in zone 10...I brought in as many as I could (variegates, small plants just getting established, cuttings, hard to replace $$$ plants)... the trifasciatas stay outside on a north facing porch so they won't get rained on (they are used for landscaping here), I put many of the bigger pots (cylindricas, masonianas, etc.) right up against the north wall of the house under an eave and elevated so they won't get splashed with mud, I hope they'll be OK there. The C&S nursery I go to told me to pull them as close to the house as possible. Anyway, I'll take one of everything inside in case I misjudged or the temps dip. I don't know much about many of the species I have (cold-tolerance), some regions get cold, some don't.

I keep my sheers on the bedroom window (and door) year round, but some winters hang the drapes with them for an extra layer and plus I like the change. Makes the room appear cozy and you would think I'd like more light in the winter but again closing the drapes kind of "wraps" the room up at night. Only problem is finding drapes I like and can afford in 120 inch length on the window. :( I have 108" Pottery Barn gold Alessandra drapes and LOVE the color and pattern but I need to find something longer some day. But I regress, we are talking about sheers. The sheers are hung inside the window frame and the 108" length works somehow.

I don't change window treatments seasonally. I tend not even to change them decade-ly.

Thanks to all of you! I was hoping others kept them up year round as well.! And Palimpsest, your comment had me spewing my coffee this morning.

If I had the room, I would love to hang some drapes along with my sheers as schoolhouse does, but my hardware narrows the potential width I can use because it butts up to another wall if that makes sense.

The sheers on my bedroom windows are there for daytime privacy. I live in a city and the house lots are small. Without the sheers, I'd have to close the shades every time I changed clothes or my neighbors could see everything. So they are up year-round. They also block out the sight of the other neighbor's back yard, where there are always a variety of cars and motorcycles in various stages of repair.

I also just like the look of sunlight pouring through them. Bright and white and pretty.

Thank you all for your comments! I really have mine up for some softness in our room. We live in the woods and hopefully the only things peering in are the wildlife.
