Bumping 'cause I want to know too.

Just measured the deep drawer stack under my cooktop for you---top drawer is the standard 6" high, second drawer 10", lower drawer 14". The lower drawer is deep enough to hold stockpots. I think this is relatively standard for a deep drawer stack. Mine are set in a standard 24" depth counter.

I think the awkwardness comes more from the width than the depth. The drawer stack I have now is 30" wide, and is easy to open and close. I'll have a lot more drawer stacks in the new kitchen. I vaguely recall the KD saying that if you go 36" and up she'd recommend heavy duty glides to support the weight better.

Don't know if that helps, but ask away if you need clarification.

All of my base cabinets are drawers except the lazy Susan, cutting board & cookie sheet storage, and trash/recycle bins. The drawers range from 4" deep to 9" deep. That's adequate for all of my storage needs. I keep my two stock pots in the lazy Susan.

I've owned many homes and am in real estate. I have never seen a "Standard" 6" high top drawer. Usually the depth if the top drawer box is about 3 1/2~ 4" in the kitchens I've seen. Are you measuring the exterior front slab to come up with 6"?

I got all drawers in my new kitchen. The top drawer is 4" (or whatever is standard) and the balance is split between two more deep drawers. My drawers range from 14" wide to 36" wide. On the 36" drawers, I used two pulls. On the rest, I used a single pull.

Thanks everyone -- I really should have specified -- I am interested in "interior" depths of the drawers. I will have inset drawers and doors and recognizing that I lose some space as a result, wanted to know what kind of interior depths I should be looking for. Custom cabinets so I can specify anything I want, within reason of course.
I appreciate the reminder about not going too wide. In measuring most of my pots, I think a 10" depth will be adequate and then will do as natal did and put the stock pots on the lazy susan.

I just measured mine:

4-drawer stack: 3-1/4", 4-1/2", 4-1/2", 6"
3-drawer stack: 3-1/4", 8-1/8", 8-1/8"

This is the depth from the inside floor of the drawer to the top of the opening where the drawer pulls in & out of...i.e., the usable depth.

Note: Under my cooktop, the drawers are the same as the 3-drawer stack above, but b/c of the cooktop depth I can only use 2-3/4" of the depth of the top drawer...and in the far back where the cord sticks out, it's only 1-3/4" (but it's only about a 2" x 2" space that's so limited.) My ladles, btw, do not fit in the top drawer! But, my 8qt stockpot w/lid does fit in the bottom drawers.
