The light assembly failed shortly after we got the hood the first time. It was replaced. It failed again in October (we had the hood a little over 3 years total). The tech asked if we cooked more on that side - he thought more heat there And why we weren’t having the issue on the other side. he also asked if we run the fan when we cook, which we do - since that would minimize grease getting into the assembly. it seems to me that a hood should be designed to deal with heat - it is over the cooktop. The fact that the light assembly doesn’t seal out grease if that impacts the functioning of the light or any other internal mechanism in the vent hood is a design problem. I fully expect the light assembly to continue to fail from normal use based on this experience and what the tech told me - since there is no way to clean the grease out of the light assembly and heat from using the cooktop is expected Changing light bulbs is not the issue. I am now concerned about what other mechanisms have been affected or will continue to be affected by the inability to withstand heat and grease that gets into places that you can’t clean The $380 to replace the light assembly includes $145 for the service tech to visit, $64 for the light assembly part and $149 for the installation which is removing 2 screws and reinstalling the electrical connectors and the taxes. I did contact wolf and they agreed to cover $164 of this cost and recommended that I stick with their authorized service provider. When Clarke came to my house the first time, they fixed it quickly for no charge. When they came this time it took over a month to get an appointment- they told me that it might get covered by wolf or I might have to pay for it. Despite having told clarke what the issue was when I called they did not have the part when they came to my house. I had to pay the service fee before he left (he was at my house less than 5 minutes which included going to the truck to look for the part) and they called back later to say the soonest they could come back with the part was another 5 weeks. I wish I had done better research before I selected the unit. I am very concerned about how long it will last Given how much it cost originally- I never expected to have these kind of issues and that the cost to fix them would be so exorbitant I now will do better research on what the best long term solution is I will say that the dual fuel range and the wall oven from wolf have had no issues and they work well - I had a wolf cook top and double oven in my previous home and loved them as well which is why we thought going with a wolf vent hood was a good idea

I am getting ready to build a new home and need new appliances. I will not buy any of the brands I have now since they are Whirlpool. I posted a long blog about my Combo and DW related to Whirlpool. In a nutshell: Micro was made in 2002 and Magnatron has shot craps 3 TIMES. 1st time after only 1.5 years. Last time I had to pay $700 to fix it. Asked WP for reimbursement of at least parts cost-told too bad so sad. DW control panel went out after only 4 mos (just got it in April '08 at NE Furniture Mart). We wanted a new unit since this is a major thing to go out. Attitude of retailer and WP was the same- tough. We only use the DW twice a week. It is not that quiet either. Love my Amana. Too bad it is WP also. It holds everything and stuff is easy to find. Black glass top Jenn-Air is impossible to keep clean. STREAKY!!! Have to clean and clean and clean. Also, if anything splatters on it that is high in sugar THE GLASS MELTS. It leaves a big crater. Dials are placed in front corners at an angle and big pans can touch and melt them. Wow!!! adamcatum's post has finally appeared where it should have been. I must have jumped into a parallel Schrödinger quantum state Houzz; I'll blame tripping on the imaginary time axis. To answer his question, perhaps, I had a planned peninsula configuration with both a 36-inch induction cooktop and a Cooktek induction wok. With appropriate spacing between cooking units, and in concert with useful cabinet dimensions, this called for a relatively long and wide island-type hood. Further, the hood had to be aesthetically tolerable, given its massiveness and visual intrusion between two rooms now opened up into one. Last, due to the amount of time I could allocate to a "kitchen" renovation that had tentacles into many other parts of the house, plus doing all of the electrical work while also employed, I couldn't get involved in a design effort with a custom hood design shop. Wolf's largest Pro Island hood fit the bill and had a chimney extension that allowed a height above the cooktop counter of 34.5 inches in the finished room, just enough to clear me. There was an appropriate (Wolf by Broan) roof blower available with a fan curve that suggested adequate flow rate (and resulting hood intake aperture velocity) at the expected pressure losses and MUA conditions I would eventually have. The hood works well. Capture and containment of searing steak plumes or wok effluent is nearly total. This morning there was a delay getting the blower to move air due perhaps to household humidity (I keep it at 40% in the winter) condensing and freezing up something in the duct path, or due to some roof snow melting and refreezing near the external damper. There is still a lot of roof snow here in NH, although the blower areas look clear from the ground. Anyway, after a couple of minutes the issue resolved itself and full flow was achieved. There are at least several other manufacturers of hoods that one can find, such as ModernAire, Handcrafted Metal, Inc., Abbaka, Prestige, maybe CaptiveAire, Greenheck; searching on the Internet can be useful for seeing the vast scope of possibilities. As I didn't need a separate roof cap because it was part of the Wolf blower assembly, I never expended any time looking into roof cap sources so I can't help there. The Wolf blower electrically interfaces with the Wolf hood, so I didn't have to get involved with interface issues. If I were doing it over and didn't have anything else to do with my time, I would consider adapting a commercial pedestal-mounted up-blast roof blower, nominally oversized for the application but running a belt sheaf ratio that lowered the blade speed to achieve (only!) 1500 CFM in free air. This would be even quieter (I think), but certainly a more obvious blower than the usual Wolf, Broan, and Abbaka roof-hugging devices. In your case, you could fight the snow by using a pedestal mount high enough for the snow depth, upon which a down-blast blower assembly (sans fan and motor) was mounted. (These vaguely resemble mushrooms.) You would need an internal damper to supplement that of the hood. Other chimney type schemes come to mind, but I think searching would be best for you to cover the bases. kas

I looked at faber, but nothing is available with higher than 600 cfms at 30 inch depth (must keep that depth because my cabinets are in the way). Also looked at prizer, abbaka, bluestar, z line, dacor, GE, stuff at home depot, stuff at costco, stuff at friedmans but something was either the wrong size, cfm, or not available. There is a fivestar that works but no pictures to see if the inside of the hood is "tent" shaped as recommended by @kaseki. @Joseph Henderson any other recommendations for good value brands? I looked at wolf too but the duct cover was so expensive! I started my journey contacting HVAC professionals in the Los Angeles area to see what they would recommend, but I haven't had much luck finding someone who does vent hood installation or would recommend something roof mounted which I found frustrating and odd. I found it a little odd that his recommendation for hood CFM was so low and the hood actually does not require any ducting changes whatsoever (Duct Width 6 inch). Another company had someone come in for an estimate and then said they wouldn't be able to give us a quote for a month due to covid. Another company I called for recommendations said just pick the appliance and he will install it. When prompted about what he would recommend he said usually the more expensive the better... Would love to have any recommendations for installation in Los Angeles area if possible since changing the ducting does require cutting a hole in the roof and futzing around my attic. i feel as though this is a VERY important part. havent heard back from friedmans (who sells appliances in our area) @M yes, I was on houzz forums last night reading about flexible ducting and fearing a house fire X__X larger rigid ducting is definitely at the top of my list. @Buehl I am limited by cabinets on each side, will definitely look at something deeper at least 24 in, seems like there aren't a lot of options that are deeper than that.
