Shelf above range/below vent hood?
Comments (2)I have fold down wire shelves, which I like because they're up out of the way most of the time. When up, there is a shallow shelf piece there for small things like S&P shakers. I was watching "Reba" the other day, and she has a such a jumble of stuff on that shelf over her range. If it were real it would probably be a fire hazard....See MoreWhat Gauge Stainless Steel for Range Backsplash?
Comments (3)I just ordered mine today so I've recently researched this.... I don't think code is an issue - I've never seen that mentioned anywhere. We went with 22GA because I didn't want to risk any waves from the adhesive and I wanted it to be a little more dent resistant. Also, useful numbers to know are 304 #4 finish....See MoreTile or Stainless steel behind cook top?
Comments (15)I'm a huge fan of stainless steel. In my old kitchen, DH installed brushed stainless steel behind the stove, all the way to the ceiling. It was so much easier than the painted wall to keep clean. And the rest of the kitchen was original 1952 vintage (i.e., yucky). However, in my new kitchen, I had white subway tile installed in a basketweave pattern and still thought I wanted a stainless steel backsplash. I bought a 28" high piece and the contractor installed it over the stove. In the process he made a horrible dent in it and tried to tell me it was that way out of the box (a lie, because I took it out myself to show it to him a couple of hours before. And for gosh sake, if it had that huge dent, why in the world would you install it?!?!?). I wanted to cry and told him to take it down. DH said he would exchange it and I told him to just return it and not get another. Not just because of the dent, but because I lost all that beautiful tile and the kitchen looked dark. It's just a simple white subway design, but it and the floor tiles are probably my favorite things about my new kitchen. Of course, now I have four small holes in the tile that have been filled with something white and I will have to figure out a way to camouflage them. I have a couple of ideas, but I'm not rushing into anything....See MoreStainless Steel Backsplash behind range...maintence issues?
Comments (38)worthy -- Not sure, but I haven't had an issue with the stainless steel backsplash, and mine runs around the entire counter, over the sink, and on the other side. Sure beats trying to keep grout clean. The way I clean behind the cooktop is to put water in a pot, boil it so that the backsplash is covered with steam, and wipe off. The hood fan needs to be off. Of course, this method won't work for the kind of discolouration in the OP's picture, and it won't work for gas since you don't want to poison yourself by not having the hood vent on. I agree with Steve that it's a cooking area, not a work of art. It should look as if it's used and loved....See Moredilly_ny
