Question about painting a ceiling

I have seen some beautiful painted ceilings (other than white)and I want to paint one or two of mine. However,it seems all the ceilings I have seen are smooth and unfortunately mine are textured (not popcorn type). Has anyone painted their textured ceiling? If so, could you post a picture? I just don't know if color would look right on texture. Help me!

I don't have photos, but I DO have textured ceilings.
I have them in BM Wilmington Tan, BM Weekend Getaway, and many other colors.

I don't see where it makes much difference as to textured or smooth.....

I have stucco walls and ceiling in my office and I painted all of it the same color, a sandy white called, aptly, 'Summer Sand.' The little half bath off the office is also stucco walls and ceiling, and I painted all of it another light neutral called 'Spanish White,' which is a white that has just a trace of pinky-peach to it, but generally reads as a white. I won't post pics because they aren't really what you're asking for. If I liked a stronger color I wouldn't hesitate to use it on a textured ceiling as long as it wasn't so dark that you'd lose the texture.

The first picture is the room before I did anything. It's hard to tell by the picture, but the walls had multi color thin stripes. The second picture is the work in progress. The firring strips and chair-rail have been removed, the walls are textured but not painted yet, the fireplace wall has been primed but not textured yet, and the ugly mirror over the fireplace has been removed. Nothing has been done to the door trim yet. You can see the peeling paper on the beams. Whatever is peeling will be removed and sanded before priming. The first color, vanilla tan, is what the walls will be painted. The second color, canyon clay, is what the wall over the fireplace will be painted. The trim will be white, and the ceiling will be similar to what it is now, ceiling white, unless someone suggests something better. I'm horrible at choosing the right colors!

Don't do it, Ashley. Make the white cabinets happen from the get go. Sit down with your builder and cry, I don't know. We built a home as a young couple and juggled and settled based on money. What I didn't do was accurately assess my priorities and accurately determine what I could in fact live with versus what was going to bum me out totally if I gave it up. My DD just went through a breakup. Before it, she kept demonstrating confirmation bias. Once we make a decision, some of us can pretzelize ourselves to defend and justify it. She ended up driving a moving van towing a car across country by herself, when two days before it seemed impossible to live without the boyfriend. Please break up with the tan cabinets. Better fewer white cabinets that make you thrilled that you just built a house (!!) than a lot of tan cabinets you're itching to change from day 1.

You don't need glue if your picture is under glass. If there is no glass use the mod podge spray to seal it. You can also use the kind you paint on but most prefer the spray on. The glass doesn't hurt the looks of the DP, it still sparkles.

I love the colors you selected. I would paint the cabinet purple and leave the baseboards white. Then I would find a way to relate the purple and teal. If this were my space, I would paint a purple stencil on top of the teal on all four walls. It is refreshing to see your space. So many bathrooms are just a sea of white.

Out on the West Coast, textured ceilings (and walls) are the norm. I've only seen a handful of smooth ceilings. I guess you can't really see the texture in this picture. I could try to get a closer one if you want??

Thank you all so much for your responses. Lindybarts, if possible, I would love to see a close-up of your ceiling. I love your colors of paint also. Where I live there is no Restoration Hardware store. I wonder what would be a compable color for your room from Sherwin Williams or Ben Moore? Any idea?

Most paint stores will match any color and many have RH colors in their computers. If they don't, you could always order the paint sample online and then bring it into the store for matching.
