Comments (48)Henry, I'm not questioning your credentials or your family's credentials. I'm questioning your circle-running of Google search articles for things you want to prove...and how you use some of them. While you seem to have a mind for science, your application of certain paper's topics to what you're trying to prove can be lacking. The "discussion" about the economics of large acreage farming and farmer choice burnt me out. I'm not getting into any more of that stuff...it's a never-ending circle. I understand nature is complex... I spend my personal and professional life studying it. I know large scale cropping systems, specialized hybridizing (CMS/etc), plant breeding, genetics, and the economics of cropping system especially...I also know soil science (another degree I hold), but I don't get to apply it that much in my profession. Just because I know about "science" things...it doesn't make me an expert or knowledgeable about nuclear reactions in power plants or making new elements from atomic super collider reactions. The field of science is just too broad in scope. Hell, even close fields aren't the best of neighbors. Ecologists and Horticulturalists share some similar/same terms, but the final definition is going to be different depending on which one you ask. I'm not out there trying to have a discussion/argument on the best way to raise hostas...because other than micropropagating them, I know jack about them. Expects have to specialize at some point. I know what I'm an expert at and where I'm lacking. You gotta draw that line, especially when you're diving into material you don't fully grasp. I chose a profession which puts me on the ground floor of the industry, and on the cutting edge of the technology (both GMO and non-GMO). This industry goes on without me...it happens independent of me...farmers don't care if I exist. What's going on out there doesn't care what I think. What's going on out there is what I'm exposed to on a daily/weekly basis, though. No one's wishes can make the reality of the decisions made on the ground different. It's happening whether people want to believe it or not. I've been in fields in almost 20 states, I've seen/gathered/crunched-numbers of pest data, I've used the pesticides/herbicides, I've grown the plants in greenhouse and field environments, I've talked so many farmers in so many different climates... Sorry, I can't give you their phone number and I'm not going to play Google search tag (because it never ends). If you choose to dismiss the things I say, fine. Wishes and hopes don't change what's going down on the ground floor of this particular field (or many fields). Comments (7)Yes, in our case they were. We built & moved to the lake in 2004 & didn't know that the bugs were outrageous out here. We couldn't even sit on our backporch for the wasps, misquitoes, dirt daubers , spider webs, etc. We cleaned( meaning hosed it heavily down) it once a week. It was always dirty. I then discovered the phantom screens in a Southern Living Idea home magazine. We checked into it. The cost is plenty as you say. We have 3 indiviual screens that let up independently or together. You can have 3 remotes. Our housing is hidden under the eaves & is totally invisible from the inside. We do LOVE, LOVE, ours. We have since put a bistro table for two back there & eat on the porch too. Good luck with yours! Comments (3)Thanks garyg, I'll take a note of you formulas. I'm a EE, so while not up-to-speed on HVAC, I do understand math...and generally like it and the modeling it provides. In any case you answered my question. I figured I could do a quick check on how well the HP is working. It is 15 years old and has just had the multi-speed blower replaced. I was wondering about the compressor and efficiency. As I said, the weather is cold and the unit is holding the house with less run time than the original engineered targets for it when new. It must be delivering a COP of near 4, which is just fine with me...we'll run the compressor another 50,000 hours if we can. Anyway, my simple test of comparing the heat rise at a point just above the resistive elements didn't work, I got an apparent match between the 34KBTU HP input and the 17K BTU resistive input, not good if it means the HP is running at a poor 50% of its design efficiency (still better than resistive, but not great). I bet you nailed the problem with the lack of air mixing due to the short distance, and while I can't see inside the duct, I suppose the resistive heating elements are "exposed" to the air looking right at my thermometer, passing on some radiant energy too....See MoreDog chronic vomiting once or twice daily
Comments (19)Hello All, I have some sad news to share with you all. After Ruby stopped eating last week, we were asked to make an appointment with a surgeon to do an exploratory abdominal surgery. We took her in yesterday, June 1st, the surgeon opened her up and called with in five minutes, saying that the tumor had spread to majority of her intestines and was inoperable. He also mentioned that it seemed to have metastasized as the lymph nodes are swollen. His suggestion was to put her out of her misery. Having seen Ruby go through a very rough weekend, where she was constantly vomiting and suffered from Diarrhea , we decided to put her to sleep. She was a wonderful friend and companion and will be dearly missed. The kids and the family are having a rough time digesting the news...as we were never told she had cancer..all the biopsies were negative...and she was being treated for ulcer..and all of sudden she deteriorated in a week. She never lost any weight..may be a pound or so..but that's it. All her vitals were perfect. The blood tests were impeccable. Yet she was so sick..Poor thing she suffered a great deal. Please pray for my Ruby's peace. Does any one how to post Ruby's picture here? Copy n paste apparently does not work. Here are some quotes that reflect how we feel about Ruby: "If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went." ―Will Rogers "I said "good bye, I love you", When I saw that look in your eyes It was the type of look you give someone When you know these are your last goodbyes. You were just a dog some might say But I know theyre all wrong You were more than a dog You were my best friend, and Now dear friend it is going to be long, Before I can hold you in my arms once again. It is hard to put in words how you made me feel But when I heard your foot steps charging to me, There is nothing in the world that couldve made me more happy You were so small, yet You had more energy than any dog I had ever met You were so strong.. and Ill never forget, All the fun times we shared together You were with me for so short of a time But you taught me so much I never knew I could love anyone the way I loved you All I had to do was touch Your soft fur and I knew everything would be ok I dont know what I will do without you I feel like theres a huge hole in me Once so filled with joy and glee Now so empty and cold, I'm sure your spirit is still with me and I hope you know I will have and better dog and There will always be a place in my heart for you.. Wherever you are, I hope you are happy And have a nice fuzzy bed to sleep in You can be free now.. no more leashes.. I will see you again.. When my time comes I will look forward to seeing you And we can be together once more I will never forget you.. You are forever a part of me As I am a part of you Dont worry though.. Im not going to be blue All Ill have to do is whisper your name to myself And look for ward to the day.. when I will once again get to hold you" -Christina Rae Almeida...See Moreshannonplus2
