Sachets just add one stink to another. Clean the drawers with vodka after your stain has cured in. Sitting in the garage made them smell worse as they were not getting use or air circulation. Heat breeds bacteria, which breeds stink, which is what happens when you do not use something and it sits in an unairconditioned environment. Vodka will kill the bacteria. Lots of alcohol in vodka. Use the cheapest brand money can buy and clean your drawers with it a week or so after your stain has cured in. You might have to repeat it in the warm weather. Just like houses that are not occupied, the bathroom begins to smell like the toilet was never flushed, drawers will have bacteria build up and that is where the odor arises. It's called incubation. You are growing a culture, sotaspeak.

krycek, That makes sense. My point was not to store stuff in the kitchen that doesn't belong in the kitchen. In your case, it probably does belong there. But so many times, maybe because the kitchen is sort of the heart or center of the home, things just sort of end up there, even though it might not be the ideal place for them. I used to have two junk drawers in my old (pre-remodel) kitchen. When I was assessing how that kitchen functioned and what I wanted to change in the remodel, one of the things I looked at was what was being stored there. The reason there were two junk drawers is because the way that kitchen was laid out, those two drawers were totally inconvenient to the cooking area. The crazy thing is, I needed more drawers! But I didn't use those for kitchen stuff, I used them for all the odds & ends that I didn't know where else to put. IMO it's all a matter of planning what works best for you. If the kitchen (and that's why I noted above, the outskirts of the kitchen) is the best place for your tools, AND you can store them there without taking up the space that should be used for cooking equipment, then great! Plan it that way. But if you're putting those things in the kitchen because, well, that's where they've always been and it never occured to you to put them elsewhere, then think more about things like where they are used and if storing them in the kitchen is taking up space that might be better used with kitchen stuff.

I love the idea of them. What great "found" space for all of the items listed above. I'd say go for it! I'd love to have a space like that for a step stool, Costco size packs of batteries, extension cords and all the extra stuff that is in a junk drawer -left over parts from installation of appliances and all those instruction manuals you get with the appliances to keep there close at hand. I had not seen these before and wonder if you can add them after market? They look great and it is a wonderful idea to keep flat items that you rarely use but still need to keep around. I have some decorative casserole holders from Southern Living and Arthur Court that should be living in a space like that instead of in my pantry taking up valuable real estate. Very cool idea.

I had Pergo laminate flooring installed about 12 years ago in my kitchen and it still looks great! No scratches or dents. Nothing sticks to it. I have dropped items on the floor and no dings or dents. I love my Pergo flooring so much that when I had my kitchen renovated a few years ago, I kept my flooring. Everyone thinks it is oak wood. Clean up is easy with diluted vinegar as recommended by Pergo.
