Frameless vs Framed Cabinets:Uneven Walls
Comments (15)This forum is great - I was in Home Expo yesterday and raved to a husband and wife (doing research for new construction in another state) about the knowledge of the participants and the expertise and information available. I'm not as nervous about the frameless option now. I've been looking at the KitchenCraft, Kraftmaid Venica, Hanssam, and Apple Valley Woodworks. I am also looking at the Kraftmaid (framed) with the slab door. I want to get the most bang for my buck, and at the same time want this kitchen to last until at least the kids are out of college (18 years - yikes). circuspeanut - I have been perplexed by the plywood box issue and think I understand the scribing issue. This is another topic I am going to discuss with my contractor. cheri127 - I will make note of what your installer did and ask my contractor about his plan. It is good to know a solution just in case the issue presents itself. caryscott - Thanks for the photos, it helps to see the cabinets with the filler. I spoke with the KitchenCraft people yesterday and they were very helpful. shannonplus2 - It seems that my ceilings are one height in the original part of the house and another in the addition added by the PO in the 1980's... I haven't measured where we will be relocating the kitchen, but I'm curious to see if the ceiling is uniform in that space.... We are on day 2 of the renovation and the contractor has already encountered unforseen "issues" having nothing to do with the kitchen..... If this keeps up, I will be constructing kitchen cabinets from cardboard boxes and using a hot-plate as my new stove....See MoreFrameless kitchen cabinet manufacturers
Comments (12)I am also looking for frameless, too bad Rubottom is about 100 miles out of range for us-beautiful work. I went to look at a full kitchen Kraftmaid Venicia display at Lowes and was very disappointed. They chose the Tigress Gloss style to display, and it was hideous up close. Looked like something from a Barbie doll house. The doors and drawers did not all close smoothly and the hinged door corner cabinet had a large gap in the corner. In general, I don't like the hinged doors that go with lazy Susan's in blind corners. I saw a nice single door angled cabinet in another thread (blind corner thread) that housed a lazy Susan but I suspect it might not be possible with frameless construction. Now I'm wondering if I should go with full overlay framed cabinets. I see very little difference in overall appearance and the cabinetmakers I have met are much more comfortable with traditional construction....See MoreIf $ were no object, best frameless painted cabinet is
Comments (22)bosma- I don't currently have a mid priced frameless only frameless I offer right now is QCCI. I am supposed to be getting one from Mountaineer (current middle). I've investigated 5 brands seriously in the last year and a half looking for an in between inset and a well priced frameless- that is how I took on Mountaineer but still waiting for frameless from them. I had Apple Valley and liked thier better box and the finishes- out of business, also had another slightly pricier brand that is now out of my store. Where I use to work we had Brookhaven/Wood-Mode. Note- I'm pretty demanding as to what I expect "custom" means- a lot more than just sizes. You can get low sheen and some specialty finishes in many semi custom brands. The finishes vary by brand a lot. You can also get custom sizes in many semi's (I won't handle one that does not offer it). Sometimes worth the few bucks to size a couple of cabinets for the sake of proportion and overall function....See MoreCabinet companies? Frameless cabinet companies?
Comments (2)I put frameless Brookhaven cabinets in the last house we owned about 12 years ago and they held up great. I would probably use them again...See Moreajc71
