I know you didn't want red but if you'd like to see what a red dining room looks like, look on my thread "small changes, which is better". I never realized I would like rust red so much, but your look is less traditional than mine and that may not be the best choice for you. Sage green is another very nice color, but I don't know whether that would be considered rich. I'm sure you'll receive lots of good suggestions.

My goal in choosing the latest color was to find a color that was similar to my furniture but a few shades lighter. My furniture is similar in color to yours (although you can't see it in the photo).

Mine is actually a deep, rich red. It really warms the room and creates a cozy atmosphere. I'll try to get a picture to post.

Do you prefer lighter, cooler colors?

The last thing I would do is ask total strangers their color choices for my dining room. You would probably hate my color choices -- please go with your instincts and if you need an opinion before that decision -- we're here. It's YOUR HOME. Make it yours. There is no absolutely perfect color choice and paint can always be changed, until you are happy with it.

How about a deep rich blue - that would be striking with your white trim and compliment the waterbury cream (which, btw, looks lovely with your white trim!) I know you said you didn't want to use green but I could see a deep fern green in there also that would compliment your other colors and really make that white trim pop.

Annie1971, I know it's my home and in the end I will go with what I want. However, I turn to others for their experience, advise and inspiration to determine what exactly it is that I want... sadly, I rarely figure it out on my own ;-)~

I'm still leaning in the direction of a warm beige-y gold. I think this weekend I'll grab a sample of the BM Decatur and I also like Porter's Applesauce Cake and Eddie B Bungalow Gold.

I am leaning towards a cream. I actually like red and wanted to do one long common wall a red accent wall but dh doesn't want it.
So I guess my colors will be green, gold, cream

Ours is Lincoln Cottage Brown - Lowes color, mixed in BM paint. Sorry, no pic yet - digital camera is giving me trouble!! But, it is a brownish/plum color and gorgeous (to me, at least.)

I never would have found this color if it weren't for a forum member just throwing out the idea of it. I hunted down the swatch, fell in love. So, it is possible to find that perfect color from a message board!! Keep looking!

I don't post here often, but it sounds like you're unsure because you have too many choices. What kind of dishes do you have; can you pick a color from them? How about paintings? I think you need an inspiration piece and pick a color from there. Table linens that you love, perhaps? If your DR is close to your kitchen, the green will tie them together. Good luck in your choice.

DR is right off the kitchen, my table linens change with the seasons and my dishes are plain, solid white (boring I know, but it really makes for great food presentation...). And THAT is my problem, that the room is completely VOID of inspiration so I can't even decide on a definite direction to go in.

It's really as clear as mud to me right now but please keep posting ideas and pics.

I know you said no green because of the kitchen, but my kitchen is a very light greenish grey--SW Conservative Grey- and for the DR I went 2 shades darker on the same strip to Escape Grey.

One of my favorite DR ever was a deep blue and i think that would be great with your white woodwork

Mine is a very deep, rich gold.

I love gold in a dining room myself, in any tone of gold. It's a color that compliments most skin tones, and looks wonderful by candlelight.

Mine has very little wall space which is painted SW Kilim Beige. It might be too similar to what you have. Your chair rail and paneling are lovely.

The BM York Harbor Yellow looks like a good option. If you want to make it a little special you can glaze it afterwards to give it a bit of a patina. Dark Toffee glaze I think..
