Would these 2 chairs work in my living room?

I'm thinking of replacing the large leather chair and ottoman in my living room so I have more floor space. If there's room along the wall, 2 smaller chairs with a table between might be even better to allow for more seating.

These 2 chairs are on CL at what I think is a good price - $280 for both. Would one or both work in this area? Do you think they're too "french" in style for my rustic decor? I also posted a pic of my dining room which is just opposite the living room.

Would 2 look too crowded in front of the library entertainment unit? Do you think they don't look comfortable enough to use for television viewing? I had been thinking about using a smaller Lane recliner chair (that doesn't look like a recliner) in this area, which would be comfortable since you could put your feet up!

I think those chairs would work great! Btw, where did you get your dining chairs?

Thanks, gobruno. The side chairs are from Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic store and the slipcovered chairs are from Calico Corners.

I found this other that's around the same price - $175. I like the style but the fabric won't work - probably too much to reupholster?

Maybe a fabric recliner or slipcovered wing chair would look better and be more comfortable?

Hi all, I have to choose paint colors today, so any advice would be very appreciated! I have an open floor plan where my living room and kitchen/dining are separated by a 10-foot opening with a wooden beam header. I would like to break up the space with color if it will look right. Right now, I'm leaning towards "SW Ivoire" for my kitchen/dining area and "SW Ramie" for my living room. Would these colors work well together? Thanks in advance.

The first rug is ivory beigh shades and the rug with squares are ivory and gray. So I think the first one one would be a better match. I’ve searched online a lot but didn’t see something simple that I liked. But if you see anything nice I would love to take a look. I’m planning on ordering the rug tomorrow.

Just found this on a design blog; they paired the Sven sofa with traditional style chairs. I think it works. They even used the exact same media console I was looking at, and the fireplace looks very similar to what I'm aiming for with the remodel.

Hi Dominic Robinson , Crown & base, natural light, good colors. Great room you have! In general you have clear circulation & light sources. It's generally a shame to have your back to windows when seating though the temptation is there when you have a large wall opposite a window. A little creativity & functionality would go a long way. From the entry, a thin console table to the left w/ table lamps & key dish on top, possibly a shoe bin underneath. Couch in front facing towards the small window. Round coffee table for easy circulation, tv & media cab in the walled in corner. In the window corner you could get a decent chair & side table. If you really wanted to add more seating, you could use that wall for a long bench or storage w/ cushion on top & an overs-ized piece of art. Hope that helps! I like the second chair the best because of the fabric. Why don't you think it would match? It also looks to be more comfortable than the white chair.

Actually I think a plaid chair would be great in that room with the leather. The white seems to stark for me.

oakley - I actually like the fabric and the style of the second chair also. I guess I assumed it wouldn't work with my existing furniture because it has what appears to be a more vibrant pink and yellow floral fabric.

Everything else in these rooms are more earth-toned, except for the green milk glass in the dining room hutch. I could see a more subdued red/green type floral print but never considered these colors for my living room (would love to have my entire space in this type of cottage space, except I try to accomodate DH's style!)

The first photo you show is alot like my chairs (see photo below, I have since added art work and a large rug), in my case the chairs are paired with with a light brown leather couch, I think they flow well. I like having the colors being in the same neutral look because I like changing my look with different colored pillows and curtains seasonally. You asked about comfort, my chairs are very comfortable, to watch tv in and to converse with friends. The photos of the chairs you posted look comfy too, but I guess you would only know for sure by sitting in them before you purchase them.

I also think the chairs you posted would flow well with the look you having going on in your dining room.

A very popular decorator Charles Faudree, often mixes the formal with casual quite successfully, he has authored several books on the country French style. For inspiration, you can peruse his work at most libaries and bookstores.

Totally off topic, but juddgirl, you seem to have the Restoration Hardware entertainment center. Can you tell me whether the 3 pieces can be used separately? Can you use the media center by itself and use the 2 bookcase pieces together in another area? Thank you so much!!!

I don't know if the 1st chair would be as comfortable as your leather ones, but it sure is pretty!

Thanks, everyone. The seller of the first chairs hasn't responded yet, but I just realized that she's an hour away (even though the ad is listed in my county). She's very close to my DD though so if she responds I'll ask my DD to look at them for me. Now that I'm home, I think they will fit in the space, unless they're much larger than they appear in the picture.

judithva - thanks so much for posting the picture of your gorgeous living room and weighing in on the comfort factor. I'm going to have to google Charles Faudree tonight - thanks so much for the tip!

lindanj - it is the RH large library media unit. I don't think you could easily use the three pieces separately without some modification. The crown molding at the top fits together like a puzzle and the interior sides are finished like the exterior. It's made to bolt together.

I've restyled the shelves for a more uniform look since the picture was taken, based on a lot of great advice given by fellow gardenwebbers. I need to post progress pics and get some more feedback!

lindanj - I meant the interior sides are NOT finished like the exterior. However, I think mine is a different model than the one currently offered online, so you might want to check with RH customer service.
