faucet opinion needed

we are doing an off-white (medallion divinity) with soapstone counters and a backsplash that will have cream crackled subway tile. antique brushed silver handles on the cabinets. we have a 1925 small brooklyn 2 story house. i really like this faucet but would like opinions: is it old-fashioned enough? i want a gooseneck faucet that swivels. worried that we should be getting a pulldown nozzle but my husband doesn't think that's necessary. we will be putting in a small water tap with a filter.

any thoughts?

Does your husband wash dishes, or is he saying a pulldown nozzle isn't necessary because he would never use it?

I think the faucet is in keeping with your 1920s house. The taps do not read as "modern" to me. We owned a 1920s house in Cleveland, and that faucet would fit very well in the original kitchen for the house.

The spout is a little modern but the handles are classic spokes. I think it will look very modern classic. Nice choice!

I have 3 PPf faucets and a tub filler from the 'Ashfield' line, the old fashioned looking trough faucet. I love the look, but there are a couple things to think about. First, they don't really pound the water out the way a 'regular' faucet does. It's more like water coming from a hose at about half pressure. I think they put out as many gallons/minute, but if you want a strong stream for... I dunno, washing your hair, maybe? Do people still do that at the sink?... it might not be the best choice. It's simple to get a glass of water [something I wondered about due to the width of the stream-- I think Kohler stopped making some models for this reason], and washing your hands or face is very pleasant. The stream of water arcing out is gentle, a very natural feel with no pounding or bubbles. And the trough itself [on Ashfields, anyway] holds on to a few drops of water which will evaporate, leaving whatever minerals you have behind. I recently used a wax on the troughs to see if that helps. Even with relatively soft water, I have some deposits. Also, when we have a power outage and get an air bubble in the pipes, the ashfields spit a bit right at you, as opposed to downards like a conventional faucet. But I'd do every one of them again in a heartbeat. Mine have only been in a few months, so I can't answer for longterm dependibility [some people on these forums report bad luck with PPf], but they are fun to use, appearance wise, there's no substitute, and the look is so unusual they get a lot of comments and compliments.

Mixing styles can work, as long as all the overall "mix" has been taken into account. This could include your faucets, trims, towel bars, etc. From what you've said so far, while you've settled on brushed nickel, it's not clear what kind of style or functionality you have in mind... Is the shower bar/hand held shower you've chosen from the same set as the matching shower head and diverter above, or is it different? What is your plan for faucets (sink and tub)? To my eye, those two bases are very different and distinctive styles. You are going to have your shower bar/shower, shower head and diverter in close proximity (and maybe other fixtures too). I would continue the hunt for other options.

Rachelle - I agree, I want to make sure the finish is a good match since the syles will be different. borngrace - Yes, I do already own the main faucet... Even if I didn't, I am finding it hard to find cold water faucets in a collection--they seem to be more of a stand-alone item. I can find them in traditional styles, contemporary styles and victorian styles. The problem is, the Floriano is a very unique faucet making it hard to match... I know some people on this forum have the Floriano with the ISE hot water dispenser and they say it is a great match. Unfortunately, ISE does not have a cold-water-only faucet.

Kohler's blade spray is awesome, and I seriously considered the Artifacts but eventually decided on the Sensate. It was some time (and many decisions) ago, so I may not be remembering correctly, but I think the Artifacts only toggles between regular spray and berry spray and you need to hold a button down to get either spray rather than the regular stream. I may be wrong, but it's worth checking so your friend is sure to get what she wants. I was disappointed to give up the idea of the berry spray until the Kohler rep pointed out that if you turn down the pressure on the Sensate spray, voila, you have a berry spray. I had to laugh at how obvious it was once he pointed it out. Anyway, would a pull-out rather than a pull-down work better? It seems like there'd be more options as far as the height is concerned, and the angle of the water flow might make the reach easier.

I would place it as historically inspired modern if that makes sense? It's certainly not old fashioned to me. It's a little too clean lined and compact maybe?

Something like this is more old-fashioned to me for some reason.

ok...so i need help. dh says perhaps the grohe a little too much $$. i fell in love with it but need to look for a good unit that is a little less - all these purchases are starting to add up! would anyone post a faucet that would be close to the grohe above but not quite so dear?

Regarding sprays...
I lived with cheap plastic pullout sprays for years. I hated it. After using integrated pullout spray that has toggle for spray in vacation homes and other homes, I had my husband upgrade just the faucet in my old kitchen. I really liked the toggle feature. I looked at pull down (versus pullout) faucets for the new kitchen. Many of the pulldowns require you to hold the button down if wanted the water to spray. I did not like that feature. This means that you only get to use one hand while the water is in spray mode.

I like using two hands while the water is in spray mode to rinse dishes or vegies. Some people do not need the spray at all. Each to his/her own style of working.

Toggled spray mode is an ESSENTIAL feature in MY kitchen. I also needed single handle faucet (function over form) in MY kitchen. Faucet is too much of work horse to short change on function for me.
You need to figure out what features are musts for you then find a faucet that fits those needs. If not, you are going for the look first. If the form is driving you first, then I think the faucet looks a tad modern and not classic enough, IMHO....

Sometimes it is hard to get both form and function satisfied...

I didn't check whether it swivels, but it certainly has similar looks.

The Barclay Temple does swivel.

You won't need a pulldown hose spray if you are already used to working without it.
